I pull out and nearly pass out on the mattress. River drops beside me, tossing an arm over my sweaty chest.
He glances at me. “Fuck, that was…”
“Yeah,” I whisper, still high from that killer orgasm. “I love fucking myboyfriend.”
It’s so new that the word sounds strange on my tongue, but I like that River now has an official title. He’s not just my best friend anymore.
River smiles and runs his fingers over my smooth chest. “Boyfriend.”
I curl my arm around him. “Mine.”

By Sunday,it’s time to check out of the hotel. I’m bummed we can’t stay in our little bubble. River sulks around the suite, picking up the clothes I ripped off him. He stuffs them into his overnight bag as I zip mine.
“Nothing will change,” I say to assure him.
He looks down at the bed and moves around things in his bag. “I just wish we didn’t have to go. I like being here with you. Just the two of us.”
Sensing River’s discomfort, I move behind him and squeeze my arms around his middle. “After I graduate, we can get a place. It can be like this every day.”
He glances over his shoulder and forces a smile. “You don’t regret anything?”
“Nope. Not even a little bit.”
I hate that he worries about me switching back to women. There’s nothing I can say or do to ease his concern. But I will show him that he’s all I need every day.
My phone rings, cutting through the tension. I reach into my pocket and sigh when I see my dad’s name on the screen.
“Answer it,” River suggests. “It could be about the book and Samantha… or Sofia. Whatever her name is.”
I sit on the bed and answer the phone. “Hey, Dad. What’s up?”
“The situation is handled,” he growls into the receiver. “You don’t have to worry about the book or the girl. She’s no longer a student at Kingston University.”
“Oh,” I mutter. “Well, what happened?”
“It’s best you don’t know.”
Okay, Mr. Cryptic.
I know not to push him for answers and say, “Thanks, Dad. I’ll see for Thanksgiving.”
“Your mother is looking forward to seeing you. Please wear something decent, not your usual sweatpants or jeans.”
I glance at River and shake my head. He frowns.
“Sure thing, Dad. See you then.”
After I hang up, River hops on my lap, straddling my thighs. His arms go around my neck as he kisses my lips. I palm his head, fingers threaded through his short, dark hair to deepen the kiss.
Our tongues tangle for a moment before River pulls back and lets out a sigh of relief.
“It’s over… for now.” He rests his forehead on mine. “I wish this was the last time I had to worry about someone exposing my private life.”
“You were born to be a star. Fame comes with the territory. We’ll never have privacy. But we have each other. And that’s all that matters.”
