Give a man a son, give him a best friend.
Give a man a daughter, make him a believer.
I lean forward and press my lips to her forehead.
Holly turns with Theo.
Give a man all that and he’ll work every day of his life to become worthy.
Chapter Eighteen
Holly Armstrong
Three daysafter Colt’s service, a shiny new trailer showed up at the compound. Maverick still had us on lockdown and was in the chapel when it arrived. Seeing as I had already caused a scene in the Satan’s Knight’s holy sanctuary, I decided to wait until he was done to confront him about it. Things were volatile with the club and part of that had to do with King being dead. I was still trying to wrap my head around King’s betrayal—something Maverick revealed in depth to me after I washed the blood from his hands.
It was late, after we ordered Chinese and spent the better part of the night making TikTok videos with all three kids. Maverick stabbed a knife into his VP’s throat because he selfishly got my husband killed. King got what he deserved, and I supported Maverick’s decision—what I didn’t understand is why King turned on Maverick—but that wasn’t for me to know.
It was done and all that we could do now was heal.
Maverick.
Me.
The kids.
Life wouldn’t be the same, guilt would surface at times, but we needed to move forward. We needed to give our kids some sense of normalcy.
But the club had unfinished business and a threat still loomed which is delaying the process and the other reason why things are tense around here. The door to the chapel opens and one by one the Knights file out of the room.
Ghost is the last to exit and he does it while shrugging on his kutte. The patch that ranked him as the Sergeant at Arms is gone and has been replaced with a new one that labels him the second in command.
Pausing in front of him, I lift my gaze to his.
“Congratulations,” I say. “Maverick chose right.”
Since his little girl’s tragic death, he’s been on a downward spiral.
Hollow.
But there is no one more loyal and after what King did, Mav needs loyalty. He also needs someone who won’t hesitate before falling on the sword and that’s Ghost.
“Thanks, babe, means a lot coming from you.”
He presses a kiss to my cheek before stepping around me. I enter the chapel, finding Maverick at the head of the table. He lifts his head and I close the door.
“We need to talk,” I announce.
Swiping a hand over his face, he sighs.
“Baby, I’m all talked out,” he groans.
“I know that, but this can’t wait.”
“Nothing ever can,” he mumbles, peeling his hands away from his face. “Fine,” he hisses. “Talk.”
“The trailer arrived.”
“And?”
