Before I even could process what was happening, Lily tackled her to the ground. All of us, including the cops, ran over to separate the two women. Lily was on top, screaming at Tessa.

“You’re fucking dead! I swear to god if we don’t get those kids back I will murder you with my own fucking two hands!”

The cops pulled her off and tossed her into my arms. I held onto her as she tried to escape again while the police put Tessa into one of the patrol cars.

The officer turned to Lily and pointed at her. “Don’t make us arrest you as well attorney.”

Lily hung her head. “Shit, I’m sorry.”

He chuckled. “I get it. I would do anything to protect my own kids. We’ll look the other way and say she attacked you.”

I shook my head. “Thank you, but why are you doing all of this for us?”

He sighed. “We’ve been trying to get that man, Rob, for a while now. He’s a huge trafficker and we hate this shit. Not to mention Daisy is a good friend of ours. Anything she asks for, she gets.”

“Well, fuck.”

The officer laughed. “Yeah. Daisy is a good person. She told us what was going on and we hopped at the chance to put a stop to another one of Rob’s plans. We’ll put a bolo out for him. But you do what you gotta do to get your kids back.”

I nodded, and we got back in the truck to head home. Lily curled up into the passenger seat as the sun set and we drove down the road.

“We’re gonna find them, princess.”

“I know we are. Because I won’t sleep until we do.”

Chapter Twenty-One

Lily

Wegotbacktothe clubhouse, and Moose and I went into his office to track the kids. Their shoes ended up being in the car with Tessa, so I wasn’t sure what else we could do. Moose had a plan, though, as he pulled up all types of maps and trackers.

“Nova wears a necklace with a tracker in it. I had put one in Lilah’s a few years back and it worked out great when her ex took her. So I put one in Nova’s as well. Striker actually wants me to make a ton for all the Old Ladies and little girls.”

I looked at the map he had brought up with a pink dot.

“They’re moving away from the border... and toward California.”

My heart sunk and it felt like I was going to puke. I knew exactly where Rob was taking the kids.

Moose shook his head. “He’s taking them to the Mexican border instead. Fuck…”

“I know. And I know exactly what his plan is. There’s a cartel there who dabbles in human trafficking. He’ll hand them off and then be on his merry way. After that, it will be impossible to track them. They strip them of anything, burlap sacks for clothes.”

Moose slammed his hands against the keyboard. “We need to go. We have to fucking find them before it’s too late.”

“I know. And I know who I need to call.”

He cocked his head and looked up at me. “Who?”

“Javier. That’s his territory.”

I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote his full name and the address of my previous home, handing it over to Moose.

“Here. Can you find his number?”

“Of course.”

I nodded and headed down to the bar. If I was going to call Javier, I needed a little liquid courage. There wasn’t a single bottle of wine, so I found some tequila and chugged it.
