“Do you think Lily would want to be our mom? I know we have a real mom, but she’s not nice. I heard the things she said to Savvy, and she wasn’t very nice when she hit Lily.”

Nova nodded. “I want Lily to be my mom. Is that okay? Do you think she loves us like that?”

I got choked up and kneeled down, pulling both my kids into my arms.

“Lily loves you. She really does.”

Nova kissed me on the cheek. “She pushed us behind her when... she... tried to grab us. You always say you sacrifice for people you love. Lily did that, daddy.”

“That she certainly did, baby girl. I’m sure Lily would love to be your mom. But that’s a conversation you need to have with her.”

Maddox smiled. “We’ll plan a big day for it! Come on, Nova. Let's finish watching our show and we can plan dinner. I bet Savvy will help us.”

I stood up and wiped the tears away as Hawk did the same.

“Fucking shit, man. Now that we’re crying like a bunch of girls, wanna do facemasks and paint each other's nails?”

I burst out laughing as I reached for a cup of coffee.

“Since we’re talking about our feelings, how are you and Sav doing? You still treating my girl right?”

Hawk smiled. “She’s fucking amazing. I love her so goddamn much, Moose.”

“When are you gonna put a ring on her finger?”

He just laughed and shook his head. “Soon. I just want everything to be perfect. I wanna buy her house first. Or maybe have one built and propose when it’s done. Or maybe show her house plans then propose… Fuck I just wanna give her the whole fucking universe.”

“I feel the same way, man. The same fucking way.”

We moved to the living room and sat with the kids, just relaxing as I thought about how perfect my life was despite the small battle with Tessa.

Things were working out for the best and I couldn’t be happier.

Chapter Seventeen

Lily

SavandIarrivedat Hope Hearted and rushed inside. The new girl was sitting at the kitchen table with Luna at her side.

I smiled and walked in, starting the coffee machine. I turned to the young girl to observe her. She was so young looking, and I thought back to what Daisy had said. I really hoped she was at least eighteen so I could help her without getting the law involved.

Looking closer, I could see the bruises on her face that were fading and then noticed she had two different colored eyes; one blue and one hazel. Her dark brown hair made them even more prominent as she looked around the room.

I smiled as she looked at me. “Hey. I’m Lily.”

She scowled and looked back down at the table. Taking both cups of coffee in my hand, I made my way to the table and sat one day in front of her. Sav grabbed the sugar and creamer and sat them on the table, taking a seat next to me.

Luna smiled and whispered something in Sav’s ear before heading out. The young girl looked up and quickly took the cup of coffee.

“I’m Savannah but you can call me Sav.”

The girl ducked her head even further, her long hair creating a curtain around her face.

“I need to go…”

I sighed. “What’s your name, sweetheart?”

She whipped her head up and glared at me. “You don’t need to know.”
