“Shhh. It’s okay, princess. I got you.”

Her arms wrapped around me, and I could hear her sigh in a deep breath of relief.

“There’s so much more. So much fucking more.”

As she pulled back, I took her hand in mine, and we walked toward the police. The one she went on a date with glared at me.

“Can we help you?”

I smiled because I knew it bothered him that Lily came running to me.

“Nope. Lily called me to come and comfort her.”

He narrowed his eyes at me and waved his arm around.

“As you can see, we have this handled. We don’t really need more problems around.”

Lily squeezed my hand, but I moved closer to the officer. Just before I could get a word out, Axe came walking over and put himself between me and the officer.

“Is there a problem, Hayes?”

The officer shook his head.

“No.”

He turned back around and walked toward Lily’s room. Lily sighed and Axe just laughed.

“Next time you’re gonna fight a cop, let me at least get here first to record it.”

“Fuck off, man.”

Axe laughed again and pointed at Officer Hayes.

“Dude is a fucking pussy. Before he became a cop, I beat the shit out of him for putting his hands on a woman. He doesn’t take no for an answer.”

Lily shivered, and I pulled her into me. Axe eyed the two of us and winked.

“I’ll go check in with Chief and see if I can grab some of your shit, Lily.”

She smiled. “Thank you, Axe.”

I moved us both to a bench in front of the office. Sitting down, I turned to her.

“Tell me what else.”

Lily sighed and looked toward her room.

“They broke in. Destroyed everything. There was a note in the middle of my bed that said‘you can’t hide from me, Lilith.’They used my real name. My past is going to come up and people won’t trust me. Everything I’ve worked for will be gone. I can’t do this…”

I pulled her into me. “Yes, you fucking can. You aren’t a fucking damsel in distress are you?”

She shook her head.

“Exactly. You’re a fucking badass bitch who isn’t going to let some pussy scare you away. Now buck up, princess. You’ve got all of us on your side and don’t have to do this alone.”

Lily gazed up at me and smiled.

“Thank you, Moose. That... that means more than you could ever know.”
