He’s your client,Lily. And not somebody you want to get involved with. You have a nice cushy life and don’t need danger. But fuck me, that thrill of danger lurked in the corner, daring me to come out and play…
I walked right past Moose into the police department. He followed close behind me as we walked through the double doors.
The police all looked up and smiled at me. One officer came over and stood in front of me.
“Well hey there, Miss Banks. What can we do for you today?”
He led me to a desk, Moose on my heels.
“I need to make sure that the report for Mister Lavoie is done properly. We’re in fear for his children’s lives, so making every incident with Miss White is vitally important.”
The officer nodded while taking out the paperwork. As I read over the report, I could feel Moose looking over my shoulder. I handed it back to the officer and smiled.
“Looks perfect. Thank you so much…” I looked at his tag to see his name. “Officer Hayes.”
I grabbed my purse and followed Moose toward the door. Before I got to the doors, the officer put his hand on my arm.
“Before you leave, well uh, I wanted to know if you want to grab some drinks tonight?”
Moose growled behind me, and I turned to glare at him. Facing back toward the officer, I smiled.
“That would be great, Officer Hayes. I haven’t really been out and about since I moved here.”
He blushed. “You can just call me Bobby.”
“Perfect. I’m staying at the hotel here in town. What time do you want to pick me up?”
Moose mumbled something under his breath and stormed out the door. Bobby glanced at him, then back to me.
“Uhm, is everything okay? He seems pretty pissed I asked you out.”
I shrugged. “Don’t worry about him. So what time?”
“Let’s say around seven?”
I grinned and gently touched his arm. “Perfect. See you then.”
Walking out the door, I found Moose leaning against his motorcycle with a scowl on his face.
“Are you done?”
I glared at him as I got closer.
“Done with what?”
He threw his head back and laughed. “With that fucking shit show. Trying to prove a point, princess?”
“My dating life is none of your business.”
“It is my business when you’re doing it on my time. Focus on my fucking kids. If you’re that desperate for a fuck, could have just asked me.”
Pointing at him, I squint my eyes at him.
“Why are you so vulgar? Jesus Christ! And why do you care who I sleep with? Jealous?”
Moose laughed again. “Uptight lawyers aren’t my type, princess. I’m not a fan of vanilla.”
I could feel myself getting more and more upset. I shoved my finger right into his hard chest and looked up at him.
