“Never been more ready in my life, your honor.”
He chuckled and motioned for us to sit down. The judge swore us both in and then looked at Nova and Maddox.
“Are you both okay with this?”
They eagerly nodded, and the Judge smiled and turned back to Moose and I.
“Mister Lavoie, are both children Nova and Maddox, your biological and legal children from a previous relationship?”
Moose nodded. “Yes, your honor.”
“And their biological mother, Tessa Adams, has signed over her rights to both children?”
He nodded again.
“Is your co-petitioner, Lily Lavoie, your wife?”
“Damn right, your honor.”
The judge laughed and looked at me.
“Lucky lady, Attorney. How long have you been married to Jacob?”
I smiled at Moose, then back at the judge. “Five months, your honor.”
“And I have to ask, during that time, have you developed a parent/child relationship with Nova and Maddox?”
“Of course. They were the ones who presented me with the adoption papers.”
The judge grinned at Maddox and Nova. “Good choice, you two. I like Lily a lot.”
He turned back to me. “Do you understand that if you adopt both children, they will be your son and daughter as if they were born to you in that marriage?”
“Yes, your honor.”
The judge turned back to Moose. “Mister Lavoie, do you believe it is in your children’s best interest to be adopted by your wife?”
Moose gazed down at me. “Absolutely.”
“Then I’m more than happy to sign these papers and make your beautiful family official. Congratulations, Lavoie Family.”
I hugged both Nova and Maddox as Moose wrapped his arms around all three of us. The Judge stepped down and hugged all of us as well.
“Now, Attorney. Go sit your ass down so that baby girl will come.”
We all laughed as Moose took my hand in his.
“I plan to make sure she’s relaxed all night. We’re having a party at the clubhouse to celebrate.”
The judge patted Moose on the back. “Good. I’m so happy for all of you.”
We all walked out and headed back to the truck where Moose helped me in as Maddox and Nova hopped in the back.
We drove to the clubhouse where our friends and family were waiting with balloons and banners. Sav and Hawk were the first ones to greet us at the door, pulling me into a hug as the kids ran toward the backyard.
Moose wrapped his arm around me as we moved into the clubhouse. Everybody was here to celebrate us and it brought tears to my eyes.
I leaned up and softly kissed Moose on the cheek. “This is amazing.”
