“MaddoxandNova!Backpacks!Let’s go!”

I sighed as I grabbed my coffee mug from the bar-top. Mama Crawford had brought the kids to me this morning to the clubhouse and got them ready for school.

I had been here since three in the morning and was finally done collecting all the videos from my crazy ex, Tessa. I needed to get these videos for Lily as soon as possible so she could review them.

Tessa had been showing up all over town and demanding to see the kids screaming at me and at anybody who would listen. As we moved out the door, I could see a woman’s figure standing by the gate.

As soon as she saw me, I knew the shit show was about to start. Before I could get the kids in the truck, she started screaming.

“Jacob! Don’t fucking walk away from me!”

I pushed the kids behind my back to avoid her seeing them. Quickly, I opened the truck door and helped them inside.

“Come on, guys. Just ignore her and get in the truck.”

Nova stalled and looked toward the gate.

“Who is that lady, Daddy?”

I shook my head, “Nobody I want to talk about right now.”

I shut the door and stormed to the gate. The Prospect, Beckett, got to the gate before me and glared at Tessa.

“I told you not to fucking come back here. Get the fuck away from the gate, you cunt. You’re scaring the poor kids.”

Tessa grabbed the gate and tried to shake it.

“Fuck off, asshole. You’re nothing around here. Let me talk to the big man in charge. Hope he knows what Jacob really is. A fucking kidnapper!”

I walked next to the prospect and tapped him on the shoulder.

“Thanks, brother. Just give the cops a call and don’t bother with her antics.”

He nodded and stepped away to make the call. I glared at Tessa, who had a nasty smirk on her face.

“You need to leave, Tessa. Like the Prospect said, you’re scaring the kids. Do you really think they’ll want to have anything to do with you after this?”

“I don’t care. I just want them to see you for the monster you truly are!”

Sirens sounded in the distance, and I knew the cops would be here soon.

“I’m not fighting with you, Tess. I’ll see you in court.”

I walked away just as the police pulled up and cuffed her, shoving her in the back of the car. The Prospect dealt with them as I got my kids out of the truck and back inside the clubhouse.

Setting them up on the couch, I grabbed my phone and stepped away. I dialed the one person who the kids turned to when they couldn’t reach me; Savannah.

I had really taken her under my wing and we had a running joke: she was my adopted daughter. She answered on the very first ring.

“Hey, Moose!”

I sighed, “Hey, Sav. I’m gonna be late to the diner this morning, so just start up without me, okay?”

“I can do that. Did that crazy bitch show up at the clubhouse?”

“Yup. So now the kids are gonna be late for school and I have to head out and deal with the cops.”
