His blue eyes found mine, and he shook his head. “I’m so sorry, Sav. I didn’t want you to see that.”

I just nodded while I stood in the doorway. I wasn’t sure what to say to him. I knew Hawk would never hurt me, but seeing him act so violent scared me.

“To be clear, Bobby deserved what he got. That pathetic excuse for a man hurt not only Brandy Lynn, but his kid, too. Protective services took the kid away and brought Brandy Lynn here. I never hurt innocent people, babe.”

Slowly, I walked toward the sink to grab a washcloth. Hawk carefully watched me as I moved toward him.

He sat extremely still as I cleaned his cuts. Hawk only had a few, seeing as Bobby was drunk and no chance in hell.

“What did he mean by stealing his girl again?”

“Fuck... well, when I first rolled up here, I hit on Brandy Lynn. Was about to fight Bobby when Striker stepped in.”

I wiped some blood from the corner of his mouth. “But you never slept with her?”

Hawk shook his head. “Never. I know you hear the rumors around town and they’re just that; fucking rumors. Yeah, I had a reputation when I first got here, but since meeting you I haven’t been with any woman.”

“None?”

“None, Sav.”

I continued to clean his cuts as we stood there in silence. I wasn’t sure what to think about our conversation. I thought I knew who Hawk was, but he was slowly showing me he wasn’t that playboy image at all.

Hawk just nodded as I made sure he didn’t have any serious injuries. He would be a little bruised in the morning, but thankfully got away unscathed.

I walked back to the sink and heard the chair scrap against the floor as Hawk stood.

“Thank you, Savannah. For dinner, for cleaning me up, for being such a wonderful person. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”

“Stay.” I turned to look at Hawk. “Stay a little longer, please.”

Hawk shook his head. “I think I did enough damage tonight…”

“Nobody was upset. I mean, Brandy Lynn was, but only because Bobby hurt you. So please sit and watch a show with me. Don’t break our tradition because some asshole caused chaos.”

“Are you sure, Sav?”

I nodded. “Yes. Now stop asking me and go sit on that couch. I’ll get the antibiotic ointment to put on those cuts.”

Hawk smiled and headed toward the living room. I ran to the bathroom and grabbed the tube of antibiotics.

Coming back into the living room, I sat next to Hawk as he moved closer to me. He had already turned on our tv show and brought fresh cut strawberries out.

I grinned as I started to gently apply to cream on the various cuts on Hawk’s face and arms.

When I finished, I sat back and turned to watch the show. Hawk put his arm around me and pulled me closer, kissing the top of my head.

My eyes were already getting heavy as I struggled to stay awake. I rested my head on Hawk’s chest and let myself enjoy our normal routine, despite the chaos that happened earlier.

Chapter Ten

Myneckwasstiffas I cracked my eyes open. I was all curled up on the couch at Hope Hearted and looked down to see Savannah wrapped in my arms.

I smiled as she wiggled closer to me, her head on my chest and hands curled around my arm.

There was a cough from the doorway of the living room and I looked up to see Goose leaning against the frame.

He nodded his head toward the kitchen, then walked that way. Slowly, I removed myself from Savannah and the couch. Covering her up with a blanket, I kissed her forehead and headed into the kitchen.
