I tore into the parking lot as the Prospect hurried to open the gate. Storming inside, I pushed past my brothers and headed to the bar.
Moose was on the other side and pushed me a beer. “What’s up your ass, Hawk?”
I glared at him and chugged the beer, slamming the empty bottle down.
“Fucking women.”
He laughed and got me another beer.
“I hear ya. Who’s giving you a hard time? New woman in town?”
I shook my head. “Luna and Astrid.”
Mad Dog was sitting at the end of the bar and turned his head toward me.
“Leave my girls alone. I have the no hands rule for fucking everybody.”
“Not like that. Luna has taken Savannah under her wing, her words exactly, and now they are on this fucking path to destroy anything I have with her.”
Moose’s expression went from amusement to anger. “They’re right. You’re just gonna break that girl’s heart. She’s not a fucking conquest.”
I slammed my hands down on the bar top.
“Enough! Am I so fucking horrible that I can’t even be near her? I have genuine feelings for her and everybody is hellbent on stopping me!”
Moose just stared me down. “That girl is like a daughter to me. So no, I wouldn’t want my daughter to be around somebody like you. You don’t have the best reputation with women, Hawk. But I know the real you, and I think you want to show Sav that part. So stop fucking around and let the demons out. ”
Mad Dog just shrugged. “He’s right. You have some ugly fucking skeletons in that closet of yours that would sure as fuck scare Savannah. Plus, I see you’re picking up some old habits...”
“Fuck the both of you.”
I grabbed two bottles of whiskey and headed upstairs to my room.
Fuck everybody today. I’ll just drink until I blackout again. Seems to be the only thing to numb the feelings I am having lately...
Chapter Seven
IsighedasIserved the table of young kids passing through town. Luna and Astrid had brought me to work after my outburst with Hawk.
Hawk had really hurt me with his comments about what I could and couldn’t do.
Who the fuck did he think he was? I wasn’t anything to him… right?
Turning back to the kitchen, I grabbed more plates to bring to another set of customers. The small bell chimed above the door and I looked to see Moose and his two kids coming in.
I smiled as they passed on their way to the back booth. They had both gotten so big since the last time I saw them. Moose kept them under lock and key, fear that somebody would use them against him.
I grabbed some crayons and headed over there. “Hey you guys. How is everybody today?”
Moose smiled. “We’re good. How are you doing, babe?”
“Ya know. But it’s better than before so I’ll take it. How old are you kids now? You’re both growing like weeds!”
Moose’s oldest, Maddox, grinned. “I’m ten now, ma’am.”
He looked just like his father, with pale green eyes and dark brown hair. Maddox wore it long to his shoulders.
Moose’s daughter, Nova, tapped my arm. “And I’m eight now! Daddy says I’m not allowed to grow anymore.”
