“I’ll call Lily and let her know what’s going on. She needs to know.”

I sat back down in the chair and sighed.

“Are we ever going to catch a fucking break?”

Striker just shook his head. “I know, brother. Try to get some rest and I’ll take care of everything else.”

Lilah came over and hugged me before walking back to Striker.

“You need rest, trust me. If you need anything, just ask the nurses. Doc and I will be back later to check on Sav. She should be awake soon.” She pushed a bag from beside the door toward me. “Bambi made me bring this. It’s got some of Sav’s favorite books in it.”

I smiled and picked up the bag. “Thanks, Lilah. I really appreciate it and I’ll shoot Bambi a text too.”

Sitting back down, I went through the books as Lilah and Striker headed out the door. I kicked off my boots and propped my feet up on the edge of the bed.

I picked up the first book and opened it up, reading the first few lines. I laughed and looked at the cover.

“This is some Hallmark shit, Alyssa Lynn.”

The book was calledDreaming in a Winter Wonderlandby the author Alyssa Lynn. I sighed and kept reading out loud to Savannah. She loved all this sappy romance shit.

“You’re lucky I love you, baby. This book is ridiculous.”

But I knew Sav was listening despite not being awake. So I kept reading about Heidi and her winter wonderland dream man.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Savannah

Littleeyecrustiesweregathered in the corners of my eyes. I slowly reached up to wipe them away. When I opened my eyes, I looked around, not knowing where I was.

A familiar and soothing voice came from my right side. Was Hawk reading to me…?I slowly tried to push myself up when his voice stopped.

Hawk was right above me, helping me sit up, propping more pillows up behind me.

“Hey, baby. How you feeling?”

I looked around and tilted my head. “Uhm... where am I?”

“Medical Center. You were knocked out and had some pretty severe damage. I’ll let Doc explain. Do you need anything? Are you in pain?”

I slowly shook my head. “I think I’m okay. Maybe something to drink?”

Hawk rushed around to fill a cup with ice cold water for me. As I drank it, the crisp water made my throat feel so much better.

Hawk was still standing by my bed when I looked over.

“Were you reading to me?”

He laughed and shrugged, picking up the book.

“Yeah. Bambi brought some of your books. I readDreaming in a Winter Wonderlandyesterday. Fuck that Hallmark shit, Sav.”

I laughed as I looked down at the pile of books.

“That’s one of my favorites. I love Christmas.”

“Oh, I know. That’s why I read it. Then today I foundShe Knows Death By Nameby Mae Thomas. It’s pretty good. Didn’t realize it had lovey dovey shit in it too.”
