I nodded my head. “Yes, your honor. I understand.”

He banged his gavel, and we all stood as he walked out the back. As soon as court adjourned, my brothers all cheered.

I hugged Lily and thanked her over and over for all that she had done. She let a small smile out at her win.

As I moved down the small aisle, I felt a surge of darkness come over me. I should celebrate with my woman. I wanted Savannah to be here so much, to show her I was a good guy.

Lily pushed me out of the courtroom and into her car. “Back to the clubhouse. I know where you want to go, but you aren’t gonna do that right now. Give Sav some space. And stop sending her so many damn flowers. Poor girl is running out of room.”

I chuckled, but the darkness engulfed my soul again.

“So what do I do, Lily? I need her. She’s my fucking other half. I need to prove to her I’m that man she thinks.”

She tapped on her steering wheel as she waited for the light to turn green.

“Send her cooking stuff. She loves it. And maybe try calling her instead of notes. I mean, love letters are romantic and all, but we aren’t fucking Romeo and Juliet. Pick up the damn phone.”

Lily dropped me off at the gate as she sped off toward her hotel. The Prospect opened the gate for me as I walked inside our compound.

I grabbed a few bottles of liquor from the bar and headed up to my room. I need to just be alone and lie low for a bit.

Ihaddrunkfourbottles? Five? Who the fuck knows. I had drunk a lot of alcohol and stretched out on my bed. Things were spinning, but I didn’t fucking care.

My heart was fucking hurting, and I needed to numb it somehow. I rolled over and grabbed my phone as I stared at the picture on my bedside table.

I found the contact I wanted and pressed call. I tried to look at the clock, but it was all blurry.

Three rings and that angelic voice came over my phone. She sounded so sleepy and perfect.

“Hawk…? Is everything okay?”

“Hey, baby. I dropped my drug charges today. All proven that they were planted and not mine.”

I could hear her rolling over and wanted so desperately to be in bed with her.

“Attempted murder got dropped to second degree assault too. Probation for two years but that’s nothing.”

“That’s great. But did you have to call at two in the morning?”

I silently cursed and grabbed another half empty bottle.

“I just really miss you, Sav. Really fucking miss you.”

“Stop. I can’t do this right now.”

I sighed as she fumbled around with the phone.

“Sav, baby. I need you. Please, just stay on the line. Talk to me.”

“I can’t. I can’t do this. You lied to me. Hid secrets. Cheated on me!”

I shook my head. “No. I never cheated on you.”

“Those pictures are real. I knew you were a ladies man before me so why would you change forplain mousyme was silly to think. Now you and Fran can be happy. Have a great fucking life.”

The line went dead, and I just stared at my phone. Something fishy was going on and I couldn’t even get to the bottom of it because my woman wouldn’t talk to me.

I chucked the phone across the room and trudged downstairs to get more to drink. As I moved behind the bar, Moose and the Prospect came toward me.
