I glared at him and shook my head. “I don’t need you guys.”

“I think you do. It would surprise you to know that there are a few guys who have similar backgrounds; me included.”

Moose stood up and headed toward the door. Turning back, he pointed at me.

“You have an hour to decide. Stay, and this room is yours. But there are no more drugs and we’re gonna help you get a purpose back into your life. Wanna leave? That’s fine, but you get the fuck out of my town and never show your face here again.”

He slammed the door, making my head pound again. I laid back and closed my eyes. Moose had hit the nail on the head; I was at rock bottom with nowhere else to go.

Sighing, I decided my fate; Join the Devil’s Highwaymen and get my shit together. Little did I know at the time that one decision changed my life forever.

Chapter One

Savannah

Islammedthedirtyrag on the table and cleaned up the sticky maple syrup. Another day at the diner, another mess to clean up.

I used to love working here. It was my escape, my place to be myself, and talk to people. But now, it was torture. Torture because the local MC, The Devil’s Highwaymen, owned it.

That wasn’t terrible. Moose took care of me and was very fair. It was all because of the one man who had taken it upon himself toprotectme.

Hawk. The man who haunted my most intimate dreams. Who I wished could be the man I was actually with. Those blue eyes pierced me every time I looked at him. That perfect warm brown hair that I just wanted to run my fingers through. And that perfect body he kept in shape that I wanted to feel up against me.

But those were all just dreams. Dreams that would never come true because Hawk wasn’t made for me. I was the broken girl in the relationship he would never understand. I was used with issues he could never handle.

Hawk was the man every woman wanted, who would never settle down, and definitely would never be with a woman like me.

Not that I would ever get the chance, anyway. Lloyd would never let me go. He had been my boyfriend for the past ten years now. We were high school sweethearts that fizzled into the relationship we had now; abusive and toxic. There was no love between us any longer.

I felt more like a housekeeper than a girlfriend to him. We were barely intimate as he found his pleasure with other women. And when he touched me... it was rough and nothing like what I imagined Hawk would be like.

But Hawk... he was the one I imagined late at night when I finally had alone time. He was the one I thought of when Lloyd was taking me. Hawk ran through my mind all the damn time. And I’m pretty sure he knew it, too. Those smoldering looks he would give me when nobody was looking, the tiny touches that made my skin prickle with lust, but it was all just hopeless dreams.

They were hopeless dreams because Lloyd would never let me go. He had this sick obsession with me that I couldn’t figure out. Lloyd thrived on putting me down as much as possible and making sure I was completely reliant on him. I had nowhere to turn in this small town and had realized that this was my life until I died.

The bell above the door rang, and my only friends, Lilah and Bambi, came walking in. Lilah had her zoo of kids behind her. Two twin boys who looked just like her husband, Striker, the President of the Devil’s Highwaymen, and her beautiful little girl, who was a spitting image of her mama.

Bambi waddled in behind her, pregnant with her husband, Goose, the enforcer for the Devil’s Highwaymen, twin babies. She was a beautiful woman who had lucked out with Goose. She was strong and resilient and escaped our shitty area of town with an amazing man.

I smiled as the women sat down. I was lucky to have them as friends and a way to escape the horror of my life at home when they came into the diner.

“Hey, girls! My little men. We got a yummy cherry pie on special today.”

I placed the menus down and Bambi grabbed my arm, pulling it closer to her.

“Sav. New bruises?”

I ripped my arm back and shoved my hands in my pockets on the front of my apron.

“I tripped, and he grabbed me.”

“Bull-fucking-shit.”

Lilah just shook her head as she helped the boys settle in. Bambi looked up at me with pleading eyes.

“Savannah... Please come to the house. Even if it’s just for the night. We can help you, babe.”

I shook my head, “I’m fine. I really am. Just... don’t worry about me.”
