Where did we go wrong? What was happening?

Everything was so confusing as I looked back on what happened this morning. Was this just a ploy from Lloyd to ruin the happiness I had just found? Or was Hawk’s past coming to light?

A cup of coffee was placed in front of me, and I looked up to see Moose standing there.

“He’s gonna be okay, babe. Lily is working hard to get him out. Do you wanna stay at the clubhouse tonight?”

I shook my head. “I’m okay at my place. I just need some time to...take in everything that happened.”

Moose sighed. “I’m gonna have guys driving by and keeping an eye out. Just call me if you need anything and know that Hawk really cares about you.”

He walked away, leaving me with my coffee. I took a sip and just blankly stared at the table.

I was still so confused about the interaction with the police.Hawk had a history with drugs?

I knew he had mentioned he was in a dark place so that could play into it.But why wouldn't he just tell me that?

I finished my coffee and grabbed my purse from the office. Moose was sitting in a booth with his kids and I waved goodbye as I walked out the door.

The crisp night air gave me goosebumps and made me wish I had brought a sweater. I walked a little faster to my apartment and turned the corner.

I was so busy trying to find my key and hurrying inside that I didn’t notice the shadow lurking beneath my stairs.

A large hand grabbed me and covered my mouth so I couldn’t scream. I looked up to see Lloyd holding me against the brick wall.

He released my mouth and put his hand up.

“Before you scream for your thugs to come save you, let me just talk.”

I shook my head and backed away. “No. You need to leave, Lloyd. I have a restraining order against you!”

“Drop it and come home, Savannah. You belong with me, not that drug slinging criminal. Do you see what he did to me? Look at the bruises! Him and his buddy came and beat me! For no reason!”

“Go the fuck home. You deserve that beating and more. That’s what you’ve done to me since high school! Now you know how it feels.”

Lloyd growled and reached out to grab me, but I backed away.

“Enough! I don’t even know who you are anymore. Just come home, Sav. Just come home and we can forget all about the things you did with that thug.”

I shook my head and moved toward my stairs.

“No. Leave now, Lloyd.”

Lloyd grabbed a large envelope from his jacket and threw it at my feet.

“Fine. Then see for yourself who you let put their hands on you. You’ll be crawling back to me in no time.”

Lloyd walked away, and I quickly grabbed the envelope and ran inside, locking the door behind me.

I watched out the window to make sure he was really gone before taking my shoes off and heading to my bedroom.

Quickly changing, I sat on the bed and stared at the manila envelope in front of me.

Did I really want to open it? Was this somehow a trap?

Letting curiosity take over me, I grabbed it and dumped everything out on the bed. My stomach dropped at the sight before me.

Pictures of Hawk with other women, some in very promiscuous positions, covered my quilt. I looked closer and could see that they were all time stamped for when we were together.
