She slowly nodded her head. “Uh... okay.”
“And there’s something else.”
Savannah looked up at me. “Alright...”
“I let everybody know today that I was claiming you as my Old Lady. So you’re under club protection. Not that they wouldn’t protect you, anyway.”
“Oh... wow. So what does that mean? Do I have to get your name tattooed or something?”
I laughed and pulled her closer to me. “It just means you’re mine, woman. Mine to protect. Mine to love. You don’t have to do anything crazy. Just means everybody knows that we’re together and they can’t touch you.”
Savannah leaned her head against my chest.
“I just... uh... I really like you, Sav. You mean a lot to me, and I want to do everything in my power to protect you. I’m proud to call you mine and show you off. You’re so smart, and funny, and so fucking beautiful. I don’t know how I got so lucky.”
She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. I quickly wiped them away and kissed her.
“I really like you too, Hawk. Like a lot.”
“Well, shit. I’m glad you feel the same way.”
We both laughed when suddenly Savannah looked up at the small clock on the wall.
“Fuck! I’ve got work in fifteen minutes!”
I brought her to the window and pointed down toward the end of Main Street.
“Good thing you live five minutes from work now. Hope Hearted is a fifteen-minute walk, but I don’t want you doing that alone.”
She turned in my arms and softly kissed me.
“Thank you. For everything.”
“Anytime, pretty girl. Let’s go check out the rest of the place, then I’ll walk you down to work.”
Chapter Thirteen
Hawkhadwalkedmeto work and kissed me intensely in front of the diner again... not that I minded.
Luna had brought the new pies down despite me saying they weren’t ready. But she and Hawk were right; everybody loved them.
Gracie was with the only customers in the diner, so I took a slight break to gather all the trash up. I put them all into one bag and hauled them out the back door.
As I turned around, Lloyd was standing in front of the dumpster with a scary look on his face. His eyes were so dark, and he glared right at me.
I jumped back and tried to reach for the door. Lloyd stalked forward, freezing me in my place.
“I knew you were fucking that thug, Savannah. I am so disgusted with you. How could you stoop that low? I mean, I know nobody compares to me, but still. Him? He’s a criminal, Savannah.”
Lloyd shook his head as he circled me like a lion hunting his prey.
“You’re so dirty now. Nobody is going to want you after they know you’ve been passed around with all those dirty shitbags. But I’ll make you a deal. Come home and we’ll forget you ever ran. Father has a special cleansing that we can perform to clean you of this filth.”
I shook as he got closer. “You need to leave, Lloyd.”
He laughed as he glared at me. “We’ll have the doctor come to the house to check you out. Who knows what diseases they gave you. So fucking gross, Savannah. Who are you?”
“Please leave, Lloyd. You can’t be here. You can’t be near me.”
