The lady at the flower shop had told me this arrangement would make Sav smile. It had beautiful pale orange daisies, peach and white roses, and some green shit in there, too.

I slowly opened the door and headed toward the kitchen where I could hear Savannah cooking and humming to herself.

I cleared my throat when I got to the kitchen and she jumped and spun around to face me.

“Hey.”

Savannah looked at me, then the flowers, then back up at me.

“Uhm… hi?”

I held out the flowers and paper bag of chocolate toward her.

“These are for you. I’m really sorry about last night and this morning. I’ve been a pretty fucking shitty person to you and I’m sorry about that.”

Savannah stared at the flowers and bag before snapping out of it and finding a vase to put them in.

“What’s in the bag?”

I smiled as I opened it up. “Chocolate. I didn’t know what kind you liked, so... I just got them all.”

Savannah laughed as she put the flowers in the vase and dumped all the chocolates on the table.

“Well, shit. I love it all.”

“I’m glad. I never knew how hard picking a chocolate bar could be.” I sat down at the table while she gathered the chocolate back up. “Look, Sav. I shouldn’t have driven drunk to harass you at the diner. I should have just stayed away.”

Savannah shook her head. “But why did you drink? It doesn’t matter what you did after. The whole point is you got upset at something and drank instead of facing it head on.”

I sighed. She was right, and I needed to fess up.

“This is going to sound so fucking stupid... Luna and Astrid said some shit yesterday about me and you. Instead of taking it like a man, I acted like a little bitch and drank my feelings away.”

Savannah stared at me from across the kitchen, then nodded her head.

“For the record, I wasn’t working at the strip club with them. Luna is redoing the upstairs apartment where Ellie Jo lived.”

“Good to know.”

I looked up at Sav, and she had a sly smile on her face as she moved closer to me.

“Did you drink a bottle of wine and watch a sappy movie while crying?”

I laughed as her face lit up with laughter as well.

“You’re fucking sassy, you know that?”

Savannah laughed as she sat down across from me.

“But in all seriousness, thank you for telling me that. Can I ask what they said?”

“Stay away from you, I’m gonna hurt you, same bullshit everybody has said.”

She nodded, then got up from the table to go to the fridge. “Well, if we’re just friends, you can’t hurt me.”

“Right. But I want to be more than friends with you. That’s the problem. You have this fucking hold over me. I can’t explain it. But if we need to be friends first, then I’ll take it. Whatever you throw at me, I’ll fucking savor.”

Savannah turned and gazed at me. “Well... Thanks for being honest with me. I’m not ready to hop into another relationship and I don’t do one-night stands or anything like that. But I’m willing to be friends while I figure out my feelings.”
