She was sound asleep with her head on my bare chest, legs tangled with mine, and her arms on my stomach.

I stared down at her as she slept, admiring her beauty. She was so fucking beautiful and didn’t even know it.

Leaning back, I smiled to myself and gently played with her hair. I normally never let a woman stay in my bed overnight. So having Savannah here was...nice.

I looked around to see my clothes strewn about and empty bottles all over the floor. I had no clue how I got here last night or why Sav was in my bed.

Fuck... I hope I didn’t make a fool of myself…

I shook my head and ran my fingers through my hair. Who cares if I did, right?Wrong. For some fucking reason, I cared about what Savannah thought of me. I cared if I hurt her or made her scared.

Savannah stirred, pulling me out of my thoughts. I looked down and watched her as she slowly opened her eyes. She gazed up at me and smiled.

It took her a few seconds, but when she realized we were in bed together, she jumped back, pulling the blankets with her.

“Shit! I’m so sorry. We were on opposite sides last night. I even made a blanket wall to separate us!”

I just laughed as she stuttered about excuses.

“It’s fine, Sav. We’re both adults. Uh, I have to confess. I don’t remember much of last night. Did we... uh…?”

She shook her head. “No! God no. You showed up drunk at the diner and gave Gracie a hard time. You fucking drove drunk just to see me, Hawk. That’s really dangerous.”

“Shit. Did I drive us back here?”

“No. We walked.”

I sighed and leaned back. “Fuck, I’m so sorry, Savannah.”

“It’s really dangerous what you’re doing…”

“I know. Fuck, do I know. Normally I can control myself, but I just don’t know what’s been going on lately. I struggle with control, Sav.”

She reached out and gently touched my arm. “So what’s been going on?”

I gazed into her eyes and sighed. “Just a lot of shit going on. It brought up not so great memories and the only way I can cope is drinking until I black out.”

“I think you need to find another way. You’re going to hurt somebody or yourself. As much of a pain in the ass as you are, I wouldn’t want to see you hurt.”

I smiled and took Savannah’s hand in mine. “I know. It’s a struggle I’ve dealt with and thought I had under control.”

“Well, have you thought about talking to somebody about your past?”

My mood suddenly turned sour, and I let go of her hand. “Nope. Shit happened and there’s no point in living in the past. I probably should get you back to Hope Hearted. I have some things to do today.”

“Oh.. okay.”

I got out of bed and stormed into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me. I wasn’t ready to share my past with Savannah despite her being so easy to talk to.

I quickly brushed my teeth and then went in search of my clothes and cut. Savannah sat on the edge of the bed, watching me with a distant look on her face.

Grabbing my cut and gun, I put them both on and turned to Sav. “We can use one of the trucks here. You ready?”

She silently nodded her head and followed me out the door. We made our way down the stairs and past all my brothers.

I could feel the dirty looks from Mad Dog and Moose as I placed my hand on the small of Savannah’s back.

Moose stepped up right in our path. “You okay, Sav?”
