Chapter Twenty-Four
Ihadsatina stupid jail cell for a week before I finally got a court date. Lily had worked her ass off and gave me updates on Savannah every time she came to see me.
The guards came to get me and walked me out to the van. They let me change into my clothes that I was wearing when I was first arrested but cuffed my hands in front of me.
I stared out the window as they drove us back into town to the courthouse. I sighed, knowing that I most likely wouldn’t see this town for a while. But if that meant Savannah could live her life, then so be it.
I would do anything for my woman. The van stopped behind the courthouse and they helped me get out. I was cuffed still, and they walked me through the backdoor. They brought me through a hallway and then into the courtroom.
As soon as Savannah saw me, she broke down crying. Luna pulled her into a hug as I made my way to the table where Lily was waiting.
I winked at my woman, which made her smile a bit. Looking around, I could see that once again everybody was here to support me. But most importantly, my woman was here. That’s all I cared about right now.
The bailiff stood in front of us all and loudly spoke.
“All rise. Ravalli County District Court is now in session. The Honorable Judge Arthur is presiding.”
We all rose as the judge walked out and took his place. He banged the gavel and everybody sat.
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Calling the case of the state of Montana versus Wyatt Sullivan.” The judge looked around before continuing. “Wyatt Sullivan, please rise to hear the charges.”
I rose alongside Lily.
“Wyatt Sullivan, you are charged with first degree murder of Mister Lloyd Wiedermann. How do you plead?”
Lily spoke for me. “My client pleads not guilty, Your Honor. I have recent evidence to prove this.”
The lawyer from the other side stood and glared at Lily. “We did not review this, Your Honor.”
The judge motioned for them both to come up to him. Lily handed him a folder.
“Here are screenshots from multiple security cameras showing my client arrived after the crime. I also have copies of the videos and have sent them to the police as well.”
The other lawyer huffed. “And why wasn’t this brought to light earlier?”
Lily smiled and looked at the judge. “I’ve been trying to get in touch with Attorney Joseph Fisher for over a week now. He has refused to return any emails or calls and I was banned from his office.”
The judge glared at the attorney. “Is this true?”
“I… uh... it wasn’t my doing! Eckhart threatened me!”
The judge shook his head and sighed. “Let’s take an hour recess so I can review the evidence in my chamber.”
He banged the gavel and walked out back. Lily came over to me with a huge smile on her face.
“We fucking got this.”
I frowned. “What’s going on?”
“We have a video of you showing up afterward. It also shows Eckhart and Lloyd breaking in as well. I will not let you go to prison over something you didn’t do.”
“No!”
Lily just shook her head. “It will be fine. We’ll claim self-defense and Sav will be fine. You cannot claim that when you’ve had a previous altercation with him already.”
A small hand rested on my shoulder, and I turned to see Savannah behind me.
“It’s okay. I need to do this. I can’t have you rotting away for my crimes. Let Lily do her job, Hawk.”
