Tears formed in her eyes, and I walked toward her. I took her hands in mine and pulled her into me.

“I’m not leaving you, Bambi. You’re my best friend. I told you I would always save you. And... well, I love you. Like more than best friends. Bambi, you’re the one for me.”

Bambi just shook her head as tears rolled down her face. “No. No, you don’t, Sawyer.”

I nodded. “Yes, I do, Bambi!”

She ripped away from me, “I don’t love you, Sawyer. You need to go and forget me. This is what I want. It’s all I have now. Just go, please.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I shook my head again, “Bambi, don’t you lie to me. I know that isn’t true.”

Bambi scrunched her face up, “Enough! I don’t love you, Sawyer. You don’t get to tell me how to feel. Now go before they come out and kill you. Don’t ever come back here. Whatever we have is gone and done. Now get the fuck away from me.”

I could feel my heart breaking as she walked back inside. Bear came up behind me and dragged me back to the bushes.

“We need to go. Come on, boy.”

“No! She doesn’t mean it. Let me go!”

My Pop, Silas, and Levi all helped drag me back and threw me in the truck. I collapsed in the back seat as my future was ripped away from me in the most horrific way.

We finally reached the clubhouse, and Bear brought us inside. My Pop grabbed me a beer and patted me on the back.

“She’ll come around, Sawyer.”

I growled. “No. What’s done is done. She wants to be a club girl then so be it. I don’t want somebody who’s been with a million dicks.”

My Pop just sighed as he headed into Church. Silas and Levi sat with me while Bear told the rest of the club what happened. He left out the part where she ripped my heart into pieces. Nobody knew that secret except me, Bambi, and Bear.

That night I drank myself into oblivion as I tried to forget the heartbreak of my first love.

I love Bambi with everything I had....

AS I FINISH RETELLINGthe story of what really happened, Striker and Maverick just stare at me, not saying a word.

Then everything hits me at once. It’s always been Bambi. Despite what has happened, I still love her with everything I have. All those women I had tried to replace her with never held a candle to my angel.

She’s the only one who brings even an ounce of lightness to my dark soul. Bambi accepts me as who I am. She sees my darkness and doesn’t run.

Even though I tried to bury the hurt, my feelings never went away for her. I look up at Striker and Mav and can tell they know. They know how I feel and wait for me to say it out loud.

“I fucking love her.”

They both nod as I run out the door to find Bambi. She holds my soul and I need to find her and spill my heart out before it’s too late.
