Chapter Twenty-Two
Bambi
––––––––
IGROAN AS I SLOWLYopen my crusty eyes. My mouth feels dry and my neck aches as I look around. It’s dark and musty, but that’s all I can tell.
I try to stretch my arms, but they won’t move. I look back to see they’re tied together behind my back.
Fuck. Where the fuck was I? Who took me?
Footsteps sound above me and I hastily close my eyes and lean up against the wall to pretend I was out.
A door opens above me and then more footsteps sound on the stairs. Each one creaks as the person treads down the stairs.
The lights flip on and I try to slow my breathing when icy water splashes across my face. I sputter as it flies up my nose and down my throat.
Opening my eyes, I look up to see Ellie Jo standing over me. She has an evil grin on her face as she pours more water over my head.
“What the fuck?”
She laughs as she kicks my leg. “Got you now, you dumb bitch.”
I shake my head and try to understand what’s going on. “What the fuck is going on, Ellie Jo?”
She spits down on me and scowls. “You should have just listened. Why couldn’t you just listen?”
“You aren’t making any sense. Please, just tell me what’s going on!”
Ellie Jo laughs again. “You don’t see it? You must be stupider than I thought. I guess I must break it down for you.”
She grabs a beat-up old chair and pulls it up to sit on. “Let’s start at the beginning. You stole something that I wanted.”
“What? What did I fucking steal? You can have it! Just let me go.”
Ellie Jo maniacally laughs, sending chills down my spine. “Not possible. Now shut up and listen to me!” She gets up and paces around the tiny basement.
