He starts the bike and we take off. Leaning in close, I yell in his ear over the roar of the motorcycle.
“Bakery downtown!”
He just nods and heads that way. We pull up to Ellie Jo’s bakery and I jump off. Before I get far, a large hand grabs my arm.
“Let me go in first.”
I nod and follow the man. He’s checking all around while I try to turn the lights on. When I flip the switch, nothing happens. I don’t see any sign of the police, and I’m starting to worry that we’re too late.
I frown and look around. “I’m gonna go out back. I told Ellie Jo to hide back there. If she sees you, she’ll freak.”
He nods and slowly follows me back. Looking around, nothing seems out of place. I try more light switches, but nothing seems to work.
A loud thump sounds behind me. I whip around to see Joker’s guy laying on the ground. I grab my gun and yell.
“Whoever the fuck is here show yourself!”
I turn to check Joker’s guy, knowing he needs help and something is off. Kneeling down, I press my finger to his wrist to check for a pulse.
I reach down to grab my phone when a sharp sting hits me in the side of the neck. I try to turn around to see what’s going on, but I feel dizzy.
I fall to the floor and see a blurry face above me. Everything blurs together and then suddenly, it’s dark.
Chapter Twenty-One
Goose
––––––––
WE ARRIVE AT THE SHADOWRaiders clubhouse and wait in the shadows of the dense woods for the right time to strike.
Striker, Maverick, and I are on our stomachs, binoculars in hand, watching every movement that comes from the building.
All of this is bringing me back to when we tried to rescue Bambi back on graduation day...
I shake those thoughts out of my head and focus. Joker crawls over and points to a door.
