“I just need to go okay... I can’t be here right now. I should have just come to your apartment, Bambi.”
Hawk stalks over to her, “Why won’t you just leave him? We’re trying to help you and he’s just going to get you killed or kill you his damn self.”
I hurry over and once again place myself between the two. “Let me walk you out, okay?”
Savannah turns and walks out the door. I glare at Hawk, “You can’t push her like that. You don’t understand what she's going through. Let me work my magic and help her out, yeah?”
He runs his hand through his hair and storms away. Sighing, I walk out the door and toward Savannah’s car. She’s sitting in the driver’s seat with a lost look on her face.
“Wanna tell me what that was about?”
“Nope.”
I stare at her until she finally cracks.
“Fine! Hawk comes to the diner every day. Every fucking day, Bambi! He has this hero complex that he thinks he can save me. I don’t need saving, okay?”
“Those bruises you’re trying to cover up tell a different story.”
Savannah glares at me from inside her car.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I may not have been abused by a boyfriend, but I’ve been beaten, raped, assaulted by more men than you can imagine. When you’re ready for help, come see me.”
I go to walk away when she grabs my arm.
“Thank you and I’m sorry for what you’ve been through. Can I ask you a favor?”
I nod and smile at her. “Anything, girl.”
“Can you tell Hawk to stop coming to see me? Lloyd... well, he thinks I’m sleeping with Hawk and it just makes for some awful nights...”
“I’ll let him know. I am going to ask Goose to have a prospect watch you for a bit. Things are... dangerous... and you plopped yourself right in the middle of it. I’ll make sure Hawk stays away, though. And if you ever need anything, come see me.”
She smiles and closes her car door. Rolling the window down, Savannah waves at me. “Thank you, Bambi. I’m glad to have a friend like you.”
I wave as she pulls out, then walk back into the clubhouse. Everybody is there and staring at me as I walk to the bar. I grab Hawk and pull him into the hallway, away from prying eyes.
“You need to stop going to the diner. You’re going to get that girl killed. Lloyd thinks she’s cheating with you and it’s a problem.”
Hawk runs his hand through his hair. “She’s not that type of woman. I can feel it, Bambi.”
“I know. But Lloyd looks for any excuse to put his hands on her. Let me keep chipping away at her. She’s hurt and broken and will take a while to get back to normal. Be patient.”
Hawk just shakes his head as we walk back out. I go right over to Goose and put my hands on my hips.
“Let me see the note.”
Goose shakes his head. “Club business, angel.”
“That’s the biggest fucking load of-”
Striker puts his hand up, “Let her see it, brother. The note has Bambi’s name on it...”
I rip it from Goose’s hands before he can stop me. Opening it, I sit down as I read it.
‘Go back to where you belong or more will get hurt. Goose can’t save you all...’
