Chapter Twenty-Seven
Goose
––––––––
IT’S BEEN A WEEK SINCEthe attack, and Bambi is finally getting discharged. I’m fucking pumped to bring her home and finally put that ring on her finger.
I’m just walking into the Medical Center when I see a bunch of nurses and Lilah running toward the stairs. Above, the robotic voice is coming through the speakers.
“Code Grey. All available staff to the second floor. Code Grey.”
Lilah yells at me as she runs past me. “It’s Bambi! Get your ass up there!”
I rush up with the nurses as we fly into the ICU unit. I can hear Bambi screaming and push past to see her being held down by two nurses.
She’s screaming and trying to kick them as they hold her arms down, trying to stick her with a needle.
“Get the fuck off of her!” I go to run in when Lilah pulls me back. “What the fuck, Lilah?”
“She’s having a panic attack! We need meds to bring her down.” The other nurses push past us as they hold Bambi down and one nurse administers the medicine. “She’s starting to remember what happened with Ellie Jo and well...it’s ugly.”
I slowly walk in the room as the nurses leave and collapse in the chair next to Bambi’s bed.
“Baby? Are you okay?”
Lilah places her hand on my shoulder and shakes her head. “The meds will put her out. She’s not gonna be herself for a while...”
Bambi slowly turns her head with a plastered smile on her face. In a slow and monotone voice, she talks to us.
“Hey there. Have you had lunch? Is it lunch time, Lilah?”
I rub my eyes and get up to walk out of the room. Bambi is like a robot; old and emotionless.
I sit on the floor with my back against the wall, knees up and my face in my hands. Lilah comes out a few minutes later and sits down next to me.
“She needs you in there, Sawyer. Not Goose, the tough and scary MC enforcer, but that sweet boy who walked her home every day after school. I know it’s hard, but you gotta be the strong one right now.”
We both stand and Lilah steps in the doorway with me. “How... what do I say?”
“Just sit with her. I’ll bring lunch in a bit for you.”
She pats my arm, and I slowly step into Bambi’s room. Lilah shuts the door behind her, leaving just the two of us alone.
