“And I love you, Sawyer.”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Goose

––––––––

WE’VE BEEN IN THE MUSTYdirt floor basement for a few hours before Bambi finally cuts through the rope. Her wrists are a bloody mess and I can see part of her bone on one hand.

She cries as she pulls her hands around front, and the ropes fall to the ground. “My wrists...”

“I know, baby. Lilah will fix you up. Hurry over here and get my knife. It’s in my boot.”

She slowly stands and rushes over, collapsing to her knees. Tears escape Bambi’s eyes as she unlaces my boot. Taking out the pocketknife, she moves over and cuts open my ropes.

“Slow and steady. No rush, angel.” Bambi finally cuts the last rope and I fall to the floor, pulling her into my arms. “Shhh. I got you. I got you, love.”

Bambi cries as I rub her back. “I’m sorry, Goose. I should have just left.”

I gently lift her head up and kiss her. “No. You’re right where I needed you. Saving me. Now, let’s get out of here.”

We hear footsteps coming and quickly go back to our spots. Bambi sits with her hands behind her back and I lay the ropes over to make it look like I’m still tied down.

Ellie Jo comes walking down the stairs with Bambi’s gun in her hand. She holds it up and points it at Bambi.

“I’m done with the fucking games. You make one wrong move and you’re dead, bitch.” She places the gun on the rusty chair, then sits on the bed beside me. “Now, let’s have some fun, huh?”

She laughs that hauntingly evil laugh as she undresses. Before she takes her shirt off, she pauses and looks down at the ropes.

“What the-”

Bambi leaps up and grabs the gun before Ellie Jo even knows what’s happening.

“Times up, bitch.”

Ellie Jo screams and I leap up to grab her.
