Once I was happy with my look, I opened the door and headed out to the living room. I looked around but didn’t see Maverick anywhere. As I walked closer to the couch, I saw a note on the coffee table.

I picked it and started to smile as I read it.

My beautiful, Willow. I have something special planned. I hope this dress keeps you warm enough for tonight. I cannot wait to see you in it. Follow the lanterns to find me.

I shook my head and smiled. Maverick was something else. Who knew that big bad motorcycle man was such a romantic deep inside.

I opened the french doors and stepped out on the porch. It was all lit up with lanterns everywhere. They were all along the railing and on each side of the steps.

Looking past the steps, I could see they formed a path down toward the field. I smiled and carefully walked down the stairs.

Following the path, I got closer to the field and could see the lanterns forming a circle. There was an opening and I made my way to it.

In the middle of the circle of lanterns, Maverick was on one knee looking up at me on a beautiful black and white knit blanket. He smiled as I got closer.

Maverick was wearing a white button-down shirt with the top two open and his club cut over it. He had on a pair of black dress pants with his boots all shined and polished.

“You look even more beautiful than I could imagine, babe.” I walked up to him and he took my hands in his. “I have something very important to ask you, Willow.”

Chapter Thirty

Maverick

Iwas starting to sweatand feel nervous.

Did she like all of this? Was it too much? Is this all a mistake?

Willow gently stroked my hand with her thumb. “Babe, are you okay? You look kind of pale.”

I cleared my throat and gazed up at her. “I never wanted to be in a relationship. I always thought my life was perfect the way it was. The club was all I ever needed. Then you came barreling into my life and turned it upside down. I stopped that day figuring it was going to be some old hippy needing help. Instead, I found the most gorgeous girl on the planet staring back at me, with a knife in her hand.”

Willow laughed and I could see tears starting to form in her eyes. “Any sane man would have walked away, but not me. There was this irresistible pull you had. I just had to get closer. I felt this indescribable need to be near you and protect you. To claim you. You made me slow down and see the beauty in the small things with your art. You made me want more than just a lifetime in the club. I wanted to make you mine. Spend the rest of my life with you by my side. I would give up everything just to be with you. It could be for a day, a week, or for the rest of my life. But I would die a happy man knowing you were mine for any amount of time. You are my life adventure, Willow.”

I took out a small black velvet box out of my pocket and opened it up. I had gone to the next town over to have her ring specially made. It was a beautiful teal aquamarine gemstone in a pear shape. The band was solid gold with small etches of vines down the side. On either side of the aquamarine, were two small circular diamonds. It was perfect for my Willow.

“Willow O’Callaghan, will you marry me?”
