Chapter Six

Maverick

The sun wasn’t up,but I certainly was. I had slept upstairs in a spare sleeping bag last night. Quietly, I went into my room and grabbed some clothes and my ranch gear. Before I closed the door, I looked back at Willow, sleeping so peacefully.

Her rich brown hair was spread across my white pillows, blankets tossed to the bottom of the bed, and in the middle of my bed, in just my old shirt, was Willow. I could see her perfect ass peeking out from under my shirt and I just wanted to climb in bed and pull her into me. I wanted to just worship her perfect body all morning. Instead, I grabbed my boots and shut the door.

As I walked down the path to the barn, my mind wandered to last night.I should have kept going. She wanted me. I could have had it all!But I was a better man than that. Willow drew the line and I crossed it.

Walking into the barn, I could hear Lilah talking to somebody. “Who you talking to, baby sis?”

Lilah turned around with her hands clasped to her chest. “Jesus Christ, Mav! Are you trying to make me have a heart attack?”

I just laughed as I pulled her into a big hug. “Nah, just like scaring the shit out of you. What are you doing out here by yourself?”

Lilah sat down on a bale of hay and took a sip out of a thermos. “Striker and the boys are out in the Ranger checking the cattle. I was just doing some light cleaning. Nothing crazy, don’t you worry.”

“Lilah.”

“Silas.”

We both stood with our hands on our hips, staring each other down.

“Fine. You win, Lilah. Get in the other Ranger and we’ll go check the herd together.”

Lilah smiled and threw herself into my arms. “You’re the best big brother ever.”

She kissed my cheek and we hopped in the Ranger and headed out toward the backfield. We could see Striker and the boys running up and down the fence line, laughing and splashing in the mud. Striker looked up and smiled before the boys ran right into his legs, taking him down. He just laughed as he wrestled with Colton and Knox.

As we pulled up to them the boys looked up. “Mama! Mama!”

Lilah hopped out and ran over to her little hellions. “Hey, babies! What are you boys doing?”

Striker came over and took Lilah’s face in his hands, then gave her a big kiss. “I missed you this morning, Little Lark.”

Lilah just smiled as she kissed him back. I groaned as I hopped out of the Ranger. “Dude, stop tongue fucking my sister. Keep that shit in the bedroom.”

Knox climbed up on the fence and started shouting. “Shit! Shit! Shit!”

Colton then climbed up and knocked his brother off to stand on the post. “Shit! Shit! Shit!”

Lilah pointed her finger at me and squinted her eyes. “Silas Charles Crawford. You better watch your language around my boys!”

Striker just stood there laughing while the boys took turns jumping off the fence and yelling ‘shit’.
