Bambi just shook her head and laughed. “Well, good to know you aren’t going to hold it against us. Goose told me that you’re our new cleaning lady. I’ll be helping you out and showing you the ropes around the clubhouse. It will be nice to have a new friend around. Those other club girls can be a little much.”
Goose inched toward Bambi and wrapped his arm around her. I could see Ellie Jo turning away and I felt bad. We all knew she had a crush on Goose and he flirted with her often, but then would run off with Bambi. My brother was a mystery when it came to girls.
“Why don’t we start heading back to the club and get her room ready, babe?” Goose was leaning in and nuzzling Bambi’s neck.
She giggled as she pushed him away. “We’re at the birthday party, Goose! Can you at least wait until we’re in private?”
Ellie Jo cleared her throat and we all turned to look at her. It looked like she was about to cry as she spoke. “Well, it was very nice to meet you, Willow. Maverick, nice to see you today. I have to get back to the bakery now. Lots to do. Bambi, I’ll call you later.”
Bambi turned to Goose and slapped him across the chest. “You really should be nice to her and stop messing with her emotions.”
Goose slapped Bambi’s ass and laughed. “And you should really have a little girl chat with her since you’re best friends and tell her about the deal here.”
Willow and I looked at each other and then back to Bambi and Goose. It seemed as if they had a little secret going on that nobody else knew about.
I cleared my throat as, Erik, one of our Prospects came over. “Why don’t you take Willow and Orion back to the clubhouse so she can get settled in. I’ll walk back to my motorcycle and meet you there.”
Erik nodded as he ran to grab the truck.
“I’ll meet you there and help you unload your stuff into your room. Then we can head over to the garage and take a look at your van. Wrench will give you a better timeline.” I put my hand on her arm and Willow turned to me. “We’ll get you all settled and fixed up in no time.”
She just smiled as we headed toward the truck. “I really appreciate all of this. I’ll make sure to work hard to pay you guys back. I even came up with some other ideas to get some quick cash. I don’t want to be a burden.”
I grabbed Willow’s shoulders and turned her toward me. “You are not a burden. Don’t ever think that. Our club isn’t like the other one-percenters. I promise I’ll show you that we’re good guys, you have nothing to be worried about.” I helped her into the truck and shut the door.
“Thank you, Maverick. I’ll see you later.” Willow flashed me the most gorgeous smile as Erik drove the truck away.
I ran my hand down my face as I walked towards my motorcycle down the road. I was in trouble with that little firecracker and it was only a matter of time before we both exploded. Hopping on my motorcycle, I revved the engine and threw my helmet on. I took off down the road toward the clubhouse. Letting the cool spring air rush around me, I pushed my emotions down and tried to think about the club. The Devil’s Highwaymen were on top of the world right now and I needed to stay on track, not letting a woman get me sidetracked.
After a rough few years, with my Pop dying and Lilah getting kidnapped, I needed to keep my head on straight. Things were good right now and I wasn’t going to ruin that by falling for some girl. I pushed the bike faster, anxious to get to the clubhouse and get this over with.Let’s get this shit done, Maverick.
Chapter Three
Willow
We had pulled intothe clubhouse gates and parked the truck right out front. The clubhouse was a huge, old, brick building, with some outlying buildings around it. The whole compound was surrounded by a tall, scary-looking fence. It had barbed wire on the top and cameras on every post. I could hear a slight hum and guessed that the fence was also rigged with some electric fencing. It should all scare me, but it just made me feel a little safer.
