Fang ripped my hair back and with his other hand, pushed my face back down in the icy cold water. The stars flashed before my eyes within seconds and that black tunnel started to cloud my vision, getting narrower and narrower before I started to slip into the darkness.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Maverick
We were all sittingaround the bar when Lilah and the boys came barreling through the door. Colton and Knox ran right into Striker’s arms. He scooped them up and dropped onto the couch with them.
I smiled and turned to Lilah. Ellie Jo was right behind her, holding a small pink box. She handed it to me, “Here. Willow’s favorite cupcakes. I’m hoping this helps you make up with her.”
“Thanks, Ellie Jo. I’m sure she’ll love it. She’s definitely not a roses and jewelry type of girl. Maybe I’ll grab some wildflowers from Mama’s garden.”
All of a sudden, Ellie Jo’s smile turned into a frown. Her eyes narrowed and I followed her gaze to Goose. He didn’t even notice her, he was too busy watching Bambi play with the boys.
Goose got up and sat next to Bambi. They smiled at each other and he gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
Ellie Jo stomped her foot and stalked over to them. “What the fuck, Bambi! I thought you said it wasn’t personal? That certainly looked personal to me! Club girl my ass. We all know you only have eyes for Goose.”
Bambi stood up and tried to get Ellie Jo away from the boys. “Come on. We’ll talk in the other room. Not in front of the kids, please.”
I nodded toward Knuckles and he ran over to grab the boys. He scooped them up and brought them up the stairs, most likely to Striker’s old apartment.
“Fuck you, Bambi!” Ellie Jo slapped Bambi in the face. “You’re just a whore! If you ever think Goose will want something more you’re fooling yourself. Who would want used up trailer trash like you for their wife?”
Goose stepped in and pushed Bambi behind him. “Enough, Elenor. You have one minute to get out of my clubhouse.”
Ellie Jo laughed and shoved her finger in Goose’s chest. “You’ll see, Goose. Just you wait and see.”
She turned on her heel and stormed off through the door. We all turned and looked at each other. Lilah broke the silence.
“Well now. That was certainly a different side of Ellie Jo that we’ve never seen. Bambi, are you okay?”
Goose had Bambi in his arms and she looked up and Lilah and nodded. “I’m fine, thank you. Not the first time I’ve been called trailer trash or a whore. Just hurts that it came from somebody who I thought was my friend.”
Goose gently rubbed her back and then turned to me. “I’m going to take her up to her room. Call me if you need anything.”
We nodded and I looked to Lilah. “Have you heard anything from Willow? What time is she supposed to be coming back?”
