Before Goose could stop me, I pushed Zach to the ground and pounded my fists into his face. Striker pulled me off the bloody Prospect, then kicked him right in the stomach.

“I’ll fucking show you one-percenter, asshole. Goose, get him to the basement. He’s done being a Prospect and I’m tired of the mouth on this disrespectful punk.”

Goose grabbed Zach by the hair and dragged him out of the room. Everybody was standing around, completely mystified about what just happened.

Striker turned to me as he wiped his bloody hand on his shirt. “You need to take a vacation. There are too many emotions flying around right now. You know claiming Willow as your Old Lady is a big deal. I want you to stay away from the clubhouse for a week. Really think about things. If you still feel the same way, then I’ll give Willow my blessing to be part of this club.”

“That’s fucking bullshit, Striker! Any other woman you would be fine with!”

“You’re right. But Willow isn’t just any other woman is she? Now go home and get your head on straight.”

I slammed my fist into the wall as I walked out. I couldn't believe what was happening right now. I walked out the door without saying a word to anybody. Hopping on my bike, I flew out of the compound and toward the mountains. I needed to feel the adrenaline rush from the winding roads.

As the bike climbed higher, I could feel all my problems slowly floating away. The crisp mountain air breathed new life into me. There was a little pull-off to the side so I parked my bike and took my helmet off. The view up here was breathtaking and I just sat in silence, thinking about my future.

The club was all I knew, but I wasn’t so sure of them right now. I thought my brothers would have my back, would have been right by my side to fight for my woman. Instead, they questioned everything and made me doubt my own feelings about Willow.

My phone started to vibrate in my pocket. I took it out and looked down to see Willow’s name flashing across the screen.

“Hey, baby girl. Everything okay?”

“Hi, Mav. Yeah, everything is fine. Just checking in on you. I heard some yelling eariler and I also saw Zach being dragged to the basement. Did he hurt you? Do you need to go see Lilah?”

I smiled knowing that she cared so much about me. Most women got scared and ran, but not my Willow. “I’m good. I took a little drive up the mountain to clear my head, but I’ll be at the house by the time you get home. How’s steak sound tonight?”

The sound of her sweet laugh rang through the phone. “That sounds perfect. Be safe okay?”

“I will, babe. If anything seems off or you need anything, call me right away.”

“I will don’t worry. I’m almost done here anyway. Plus Wrench is right at the bar where I’m cleaning. See you soon, Maverick.”

“See you soon, Willow.”

As I hung up the phone, I sat back on my bike and smiled. Willow made me happy and that’s all that mattered right now. I put on my helmet and started up my motorcycle. Heading down the mountain, I couldn’t help but smile the entire time. My personal life was perfect right now and I wasn’t going to let anybody bring me down, The Devil’s Highwaymen included.
