She let her hand drop toward the zipper of my jeans. “Come on, Striker. You know I’m the best. I’m your favorite. You can do whatever you want to me, baby.”
I grabbed her hand and pushed it away from me. I didn’t want her and I never had. She was a club slut. Opened her legs for anybody with a patch on their cut. “I said no, Tammy. Why the fuck can’t you take no for an answer.”
She pushed herself up against me, running her nails down my chest. “We’re meant to be together, baby. Don’t deny this attraction we have toward each other. Be with me. I’m all you’ll ever need. I’ll be the best Old Lady to you, Striker.”
I grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her toward the middle of the bar. “I said no, Tammy. Get the fuck out of here. I have an Old Lady. Don’t fucking show your face around me again.”
Tammy’s face twisted up in anger. The whole bar was quiet at this point; watching the shitshow unfold in front of them. “Let me guess; Lilah fucking Crawford. That bitch who left you four years ago? She doesn’t deserve you, Striker. I do! She’ll just leave you again. That cunt isn’t worth your time. I’m the one you should be with!” Maverick and Goose stepped toward her. I put my hand up to stop them.
“Listen here, whore,” I hissed the words out. I was steaming mad. Nobody talked about Lilah like that. “Nobody fucking disrespects the President or his Old Lady. And in case you forgot, I’m the fucking President. Lilah is my Old Lady. I’m claiming her for the rest of my fucking life.” I turned around and looked at everybody. “Hope all you fuckers heard that! Lilah Crawford is my Old Lady. Respect her. Don’t fucking flirt with her. She’s the President’s Old Lady now; treat her like one.” I turned toward Tammy. “And you, you can pack your shit and get the fuck out of my clubhouse. Your time here is over. Goose and Maverick will help you pack and make sure you leave. Don’t ever, ever fucking show your face around here again. You have until midnight to get the fuck out of my town.” Goose and Maverick grabbed her by each arm and dragged her toward the back. I looked at all my men and laughed. “Fucking crazy bitch. Let’s get back to drinking boys. And let this be a lesson to you all; don’t let these girls get too close to you!”
Everybody laughed and turned back to their drinks. I headed up to my office, needing some peace and quiet. I turned on my computer and did a quick search of Lilah’s ex, Danny. I needed to know everything I could about him to make the perfect plan to bring him down. Nobody messed with my Little Lark and got away with it.
Chapter 11
Lilah
Everything was goinggreat on my first day at the Bitterroot Valley Medical Center. The Medical Center was a one-stop shop for everything. Emergency room, pediatricians, family doctors, therapy, you name it. Doctor Henry Tickner ran everything. He had a few nurses working for him, but needed help managing his team. He was getting up there in age and offered me a job when he heard I was coming home. I gladly accepted the position and was more than happy to work here. Even when I was little, I loved to organize and be in charge. If you asked my brothers, they would tell you I’ve been bossy since the day I was born. My Mama always told me I was just a natural born leader. I didn’t mind either way and was excited to get back to work.
I was working on organizing some files when Doctor Tickner came by my office. “Knock knock, dear!” I looked up and smiled at the elderly doctor. He had such a warm demeanor. His soft brown eyes, salt-and-pepper hair, and his friendly smile made anybody feel right at home.
“Hi there, Doctor Tickner! What can I do for you?”
He laughed and shook his head, “Lilah, dear, how many times have I told you, call me ‘Hank’. I helped deliver you as a baby for goodness sakes.”
I put the pile of files down on my desk and walked over to him; giving him a big hug, I turned back around toward my desk. “I know, I know. But I want the other nurses to respect me. I don’t want them to think I got the job just because we’re family friends. So Doctor Tickner it is.”
He sat down in one of my big, leather chairs in the corner, “No deal. Doctor Tickner was my father. How about you can call me ‘Doctor Hank’. I like that much better!”
Laughing, I shook my head and put my hand out. “You’ve got yourself a deal,Doctor Hank.” He came up and shook my hand before sitting himself back down in the chair.
“Alright, deary. Now time to get down to business. I have a proposition for you. As you know, I’m getting up there in age. I’ve been waiting to find a suitable replacement for a while now. I want to retire and spend my days in the mountains and streams. I got myself a nice new fly fishing rod and have been dying to try it out.” He shook his head and laughed, “Anywho, I’ve been searching for somebody who can fill my shoes. I, of course, would still come and do some work here; can’t stop working, it’s in my blood. But that’s why I’ve asked you to work here. I know you took the MCAT and scored extremely high.”
I blushed and tucked a stray hair behind my ear, “Doctor Hank. I can’t leave Mama again. She needs me. So as much as that sounds amazing, I just can’t accept.”
Doctor Hank just laughed and crossed his legs. “Listen my dear Lilah. I made a deal with the university. You will be able to study online, video chat with your teachers, and complete your residency all right here in my clinic. And it will all cost you nothing. All you need to do is pass your classes and pass The U.S. Medical Licensing Examination, which I know you will do with flying colors. Now, you don’t need to answer right now. Take some time to think about it and ask your dear Levi.”
