“We’re at the top of a bridge,” I reminded him quietly.
“So we are.” His fingers lingered in my curls, sending shivers of warmth down my spine as he inclined his head to mine.
“Ahem!” Godfrey’s baleful voice came from just beside the vase to Korth’s left. He must have sprinted up here to keep us apart.
Without taking his eyes off me, Korth shoved Godfrey over the railing into the lake. His manservant’s legs shot into the air as he toppled backward, his descent accompanied by a long howl, followed by a colossal splash. I leaned my head over the railing, watching as Godfrey floundered in the water below.
“That did feel good,” Korth told me with a mischievous grin.
“Welcome to life as a rebel,” I told him. “It does have its perks.”
“It certainly does,” he answered, then kissed me.
