“Bae, I’ll be right back. I gotta run to the store.” Demetric said.
“Okay.” He dropped a kiss on my lips before he disappeared. Hopefully, I wouldn’t be sleeping when he came back.
Demetric
Iplayedthatshitoffgood, but I was nervous as fuck when my mama insinuated that Daizha could be pregnant. Granted, we never used protection, but the thought of her getting pregnant never crossed my mind. It was so much going on; the thought never crossed my mind. Now here I was headed back to my parents’ house so I could talk to my pops. This shit got me on edge. When I walked back in, I found him in the living room with Ma Izzy cozied up by his side.
“I knew you would be back,” he said. He tapped Ma Izzy on her leg so she could sit up and he stood to walk out of the room.
“Where’s Daizha?” she asked.
“Home sleep,” I replied.
“Uhmm…hmm,” she hummed knowingly. I just shook my head and followed my pops to his office. He didn’t waste any time talking once we were inside.
“She’s pregnant, isn’t she?” he questioned.
“I don’t know. The shit was the furthest thing from my mind until Ma brought it up. I mean, it’s a possibility. I never strapped up with her,” I admitted.
“What are you going to do if she is?” he asked.
“I’m going to take care of her and my kid. She already doesn’t work, so that won’t be a problem.”
“How does she feel about all of this? Is she okay with being somebody’s mama?”
“We haven’t gotten that far yet. She’s adamant about not being pregnant, so I left it alone. I don’t want to feel like I’m pressuring her into some shit.”
I heard what my pops was saying, and I knew what I had to do for my sanity and hers. A baby would be a lot on us if she was indeed pregnant, especially after everything she went through.
“I hear you. Let me go. I told her I was going to the store.” I dapped my pops up and got ready to leave. I went to look for Ma Izzy on the way out and found her in her favorite spot in the kitchen.
“You’re about to go a test?” she asked as soon as she saw me.
“Yeah. You got a nigga stressing and shit. I rather go ahead and find out than be on pins and needles worrying whether she is or not,” I admitted.
“Just make sure you let me know as the stick dries so I can start preparing,” she said.
“I got you.” I pulled her into a hug and kissed the top of her head.
“Te amo, hijo. (I love you, son.)”
“I love you, too, Ma.”
When I got back home, Daizha was up.
“I thought you were going to the store?” she quizzed.
“I did. I went back by my people’s house,” I admitted.
“For what?”
“To talk about this.” I put the bag in her lap, and she looked at me before she opened it.
“Pregnancy tests?”
“Yeah. Ma Izzy had me thinking and I need to know so I can plan our next move. I can’t have you carrying my kid and not have shit in place. So, can you do this for me, please?” She looked at me and sighed before getting up and going into the bathroom. My nerves we on ten while I waited. I sat and thought about how I could be somebody’s daddy. Hell, I didn’t have one for the first thirteen years of my life. Zeus always showed me how a man is supposed to lead and provide, but it’s different when you’re the one that has to stand up in the paint and do it. I was halfway through my blunt when Daizha came back out of the bathroom. When she sat down, she placed the tests in my hands and when I looked down, all of them muthafuckas said positive. I looked up at her and she had tears in her eyes.
“How you feeling?” I asked honestly.
