“Nice to meet you,” I replied.

“You look like you need one of these. Mija, get her a glass.”

I wanted to tell her that I was only twenty, but I needed this drink. I wish it was stronger, but I had to drive Demetric’s car back home.

“So what happened?” Jaylen asked after pouring a substantial amount of wine into my glass. After gulping half of it down, I told her everything that went down at my job.

“Oh, I know you lying. We can go run it on ’em. We can take that nigga, too. We wouldn’t even have to call Meechie.” She had a deep frown on her face that made me chuckle because she was so serious.

“I’m not thinking about them miserable hoes, and fuck that job.” I remembered that I was in front of her mama and immediately regretted cursing. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cur…” she cut me off.

“Oh chica, please. These kids of mine say way worst. You’re fine, plus I completely understand. Sounds like they both deserved to be put on their asses.”

It felt good talking to Jaylen and her mom. These were things that I missed with my own mama. I often wondered if she ever thought about me. I found her on Facebook, and she had gotten married and everything, so I guess she was happy with her life. I kept up with Aiden too, but I didn’t want to disrupt his life, or have him reject me. Maybe I’d get the courage to do so one day.

Chapter Ten

Demetric

Daizhadroppedmeoffat Kev’s house and as soon as I got inside, this nigga had jokes.

“Aww, yo’ boo dropped you off?” he cracked up.

“Nigga, fuck you for real. Ain’t shit going on between me and Daizha. I let her use my shit to go to work because Jay had something to do wit’ Ma Izzy,” I explained.

“Tell me anything, nigga. Yo’ ass been acting real funny since that night at the club. You smashed that girl, ain’t it?” He had a smirk on his face that was wide as hell. Looking dumb as hell.

“When you started gossiping? You sound like a real bitch right now.”

“You deflecting, nigga. You forgot I know you, so wassup up? You hit or not?” Swiping my hand over my hair and down my face, I decided to tell this nigga what happened before I had to beat his ass.

“She kissed me,” I blurted out.

“I knew it. Wait…that’s it?”

“Yeah, that’s it. She caught me off guard, so before it could register, she pulled away. I wasn’t even sweating it, though. I had just got in from fuckin’ on Paris. I wasn’t trying to be no dirty dick nigga. Feel me?”

“Yeah, I get it. What y’all gon’ do though? I knew you were feeling her and it’s obvious. So, how are you going to handle it?” I thought about what he was saying, and I really didn’t have an answer. I didn’t know if I could take it there with her or not. She had some shit going on with her, just like I did. I could tell she was a lil’ more fragile, though.

“I’on know. I honestly haven’t thought about it because I had no intentions of taking it there with her. I only wanted to help her out with her situation, but the more time I spend around her, the more I find myself thinking about her in ways that I shouldn’t,” I confessed.

“Says who?”

“Says me, nigga. Bring yo’ ass on. Got me in here discussing my feelings and shit. I feel like my period about to sync or some shit.”

“The fuck, nigga?” he laughed.

“Man, come on. We need to go holla at Zeus. He’s at the store so let’s go.” I waited for him to grab his keys and we headed out the door and piled in his car and headed to Zeus’ store. While we rode, I texted Daizha to make sure was good.

Me: You good?

Daizha: Yes, and your car is fine. I know that’s the real reason you’re checking on me. (smirk emoji)

Me: Nah…I wanted to make sure I ain’t have to come up there and put my foot in that cockeyed muthafucka’s ass. I’d send my mama or Jay to slap that bitch you work wit.

Daizha: Ain’t nobody thinking about James or Erica, but let me go so I don’t have to curse him out.

I declined to respond because I knew she had already put it up. When I looked up, Kev was looking in my face with a dumb ass look on his face.
