“I…I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were here.”
“I just got here. I see you cooked. That shit smells good. I’m kind of glad I skipped going to my people’s house to grab a plate.”
“Just trying to pull my weight,” I responded, rendering a nod from him.
Finally in my room, I got dressed and went into the kitchen to find Demetric in the refrigerator.
“The food is done. I just turned it down because I was in the back.”
“Bet. I’m hungry as fuck.” He shut the refrigerator after removing the milk carton. I stood out of the way as I watched him maneuver around the kitchen, getting a plate, glass, and utensils to fix his food.
“This shit better be good, Dai. I play about a lot of shit, but food ain’t one of ’em,” he smirked.
“If you don’t like it, I can fix you something else,” I offered. The look on his face made me want to immediately take back the words that just expelled out of my mouth.
“If I don’t like it, I’d just find something else to eat. That nigga made you do shit like that?” he questioned.
“Yeah,” I mumbled.
“How you meet that fuck ass nigga, anyway?”
I debated on whether I should tell him the truth or lie about how we met. He may have opened his home to me, but I wasn’t ready to share that part of me with him.
“I met him after I moved out. He was the only friend I had, so I…”
He cut me off before I could finish. “You felt obligated.” I nodded.
“I get it, but listen. You don’t need that nigga. I don’t know your past, but him using that shit against you is a real bitch move. Fuck him. You don’t ever have to worry about that nigga again, as long as I’m breathing. Aight?”
I nodded my head to let him know that I understood him. It was weird but for odd reason, I believed him. Maybe he wasn’t bad like everybody else.

Idon’tknowwhyIlet Jaylen talk me into going out tonight. I don’t know the last time I went out and just had fun. I guess it’s a start to my new life that she and Demetric insist that I have. We were now in a club, having a good time. I didn’t think I would ever feel so carefree again as I did in that moment. DaBaby’s ‘Shake Sumn’ was blaring through the club’s speakers and I let the small amount of alcohol that I had in my system take over. Finding the beat, I let my hips catch up with the beat. I heard Jaylen hyping me up, and they gave me that extra confidence. During my dance, I felt a body come up behind me, causing me to jump and stop in my tracks.
“Don’t stop now, shorty. I know you felt my dick,” the stranger said in my ear while he had a tight grip on my arm.
“Let me go,” I demanded, trying to break free of him, but his hold became tighter.
“Nigga, get yo’ hands off my friend!” Jaylen fussed as she pushed his ass. That only seemed to make him madder.
“Both y’all bitches can…” his words were cut off abruptly, and I saw Jaylen smirk. I turned around and saw Demetric standing behind the dude with his gun to his head. He had another dude beside him with his gun out as well.
“Nigga, get ya fuckin’ hands off of her,” he growled. Relieved that the stranger turned me loose. I hurried and stood beside Jaylen. The dude looked scared for his life, as he should be for putting his damn hands on me.
“My bad. I ain’t know she had a nigga,” he pleaded.
“Shit don’t matter. The fuck that gotta do wit’ you handling her like that? Fuck on, nigga, ’fore they be scraping ya fuckin’ brains off the floor.” We all watched the dude disappear in the crowd. Once he was out of our eyesight, Demetric approached me.
“You good?” he asked while his deep brown orbs glanced over my body like he was making sure that I was physically okay.
“I’m fine,” I nodded.
“Aight. Y’all don’t need to be out here on the floor like that, and Jay knows better.” He cut his eyes over to her, prompting her to roll hers. “Y’all can come up to our section,” he offered. I looked over at Jaylen and all she did was loop her arm into mine and escorted me off of the dance floor and up a set of stairs. It wasn’t crowded up here at all. The only other people up here besides us were two guys.
