“Ow,” I complained as she slammed the door closed on me.

Larissa got into the driver’s seat and began driving towards the prison.

“You know that you torture that poor guy by constantly stringing him along,” I said after a while.

“I don’t torture Samuel,” she rolled her eyes, but the smirk on her face gave away the fact that she knew exactly what I was talking about.

“Yeah, right,” I scoffed.

“I can’t help that he likes me,” she shrugged, “people can’t help the way that they feel.”

“You need to get over your little crush on Toni by the way,” I snapped, “you keep it up and Rome’s gonna put her foot in your ass.”

She smiled a little and I shook my head.

Stubborn fucking thing she was. We had already had this talk many times before, though I was much more delicate when we were younger.

But it wasn’t cute anymore, it wasn’t funny.

Now, Toni was married, and Larissa should have respected that. Now that Rome was Antoni’s wife, she was an important person within The Family.

He was then Don, she was the Donna.

It was the way things had worked for generations. In many ways, the Donna’s were almost more dangerous than the Don’s - and this was especially applicable to Rome.

She would not simply be like the traditional mob wife in her husband’s ear, swaying his decisions and opinions. Rome would take action herself, and it would not end happily for Larissa.

“Don’t think I’ll be taking advice fromyouabout getting over people you can’t have.”

“Fair point,” I mumbled.

I couldn’t argue it.

“Do you think the reason that you’re so obsessed with getting Val back is because she left, just like Mum did?”

I frowned, blinking fast as her words sunk in.

Maybe a psychologist would have a different opinion, but I didn’t think that my feelings for Valerie had anything to do with my mother. If anything, it just stung that yet another woman in my life walked out. The difference being, I couldn’t blame my mother for leaving Dad. I only wished that she took us with her. After years of searching and research, we still had no idea where she was or what she was doing.

We hadn’t heard from her since she walked away.

Mum was smart though, she knew that Dad being involved with The Family gave him access to a lot of information and that he could track her down easily if he wanted to. The thought of her hiding out somewhere from my father made my stomach turn.

But it was different, and I knew it.

I was obsessed with Valerie before she ever left.

“No,” I shook my head, “it’s more than that.”

“Tell me then, I am your sister. And you don’t tell me anything.”

I shrugged again, “I can’t explain it, Riss. She’s just my person.”

Growing up, I just knew that we would be together. I knew that she was my person. I knew all this long before anything bad ever happened.

I knew it when we built our first fort.

When we had our awkward first kiss at twelve years old.
