“It’s not the fucking same!” he shouted as she reached out for him. “He was going to bite you!”
“But we were still—”
“Don’t touch me,” he snarled as he slapped her hand away, his fury whipping out through his scent.
I sent him so much fucking love, using my fucked-up aura to help stabilise him, but her kisses had messed me up, too. Sin was the one who was supposed to keep us calm, and he wasn’t making a single move to help.
He just stood there, silently watching us with his arms folded. Judging us, as always.
Silence descended around us, and I didn’t need to catch the bitter tang of Mel’s scent to know that we’d hurt her. It came through her aching sigh and the dip of her chin. The worst thing was that I felt the empty swirl of guilt run through the three of us.
“Kai, for fuck’s sake,” I growled and his eyes widened, his pupils nearly bursting as more tears threatened to escape.
Mel stepped away from both of us. “I’m going back outside,” she said, her voice cracking as she tried to hold herself together. “It might be useful if at least someone in this room could act like an adult,” she finished, glaring at the three of us before spinning on one foot to face Sin and the door.
I shouldn't feel guilty, but I was letting her down as well as Kai. I shouldn't have any expectations. She didn't deserve a single thing from us.
I couldn't deal with the fucking whiplash of emotions.
Mel strode towards Sin, and his awareness of her flared along with his nostrils as she stood under him, all slicked up and ready to go.
I grabbed Kai and pulled him towards me. “What are you doing?” I murmured to him.
“This is your fault,” he muttered as he rubbed his nose against my chest, right against my heart that galloped at a million miles an hour.
I forgot how small he was sometimes, that the top of his head barely reached my collarbones, even in heels. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and bent to kiss his cheek. He glared at me as I brushed my scent over him, even though we were both drenched in brandy.
“You brought us here, Kai. What were you expecting?”
“You were just supposed to scent mark her,” he grumbled as his arms went around my back and drew me closer. My hard cock against his stomach as he notched his head back to look at me. “Not go full alpha on her.”
“We already talked about this,” I growled as I dipped to press my lips against his hair. I needed him to bring me down. To stop me from dragging her back so the four of us could finish what we started.
“I can't believe you were going to bond with her,” he croaked. “And in a fucking hotel bathroom.”
I looked up at her standing in front of Sin, both of them staring at each other, falling into each other again. We both knew he was seconds away from gathering her up and stealing her away. And I was so fucking sure she wouldn't hesitate like she might with me or Kai. Because my asshole of a mate hid that rotten part of himself from her too well.
The tension stretching between them was so thick that I wanted to jump in just to end it.
“It seriously was just my instincts. You're the only person I want to bite.” I squeezed him tighter, praying he’d ground me. We both knew I was lying, but it was easier to just keep pretending.
Kai never needed to support me like this when it came to Camille, because she was so delicate that I could never touch her the same way I could with him. I’d never throw myself at her because I needed to protect her and prove to her I was a safe person she could trust.
But I furiously hurled myself at Mel and she took every piece of me, just like Kai could.
“How am I meant to believe you?” my omega asked.
“How about I show you exactly how once Sin stops being an arse and lets her go?”
“So we don’t have to go back to the party?” Kai shifted his hips, his back curving as he ground against my cock. Both of us seriously needed relief.
“Sin can call her a car and we can get a room and stay here until you’re fucked out.”
Happiness fluttered through my omega, and I sighed as I leant down to kiss him properly. The room was filled with amaretto, brandy, and caramel, with notes of vanilla floating around. And I’d make sure there wasn’t a single whiff of brandy on us when I was done with Kai.
“Fine.” He pursed his lips. “But I’m only forgiving you because I like your cock. Nothing else.”
I chuckled against his lips as I kissed him again. No matter how much Kai liked to wind me up, he was always my place of peace. Even when I was in a rogue state and blindly destroying everything around me, he’d take my hand and we’d fuck for hours just to keep me stable.
