“Those betas work for Kai, but also my mother,” I whispered. “They report everything back to her, so it would be beneficial for us to leave now rather than acting like wild animals.”

Despite the fact that, as the alpha, I was responsible for her wellbeing, and I was the one acting like a savage.

Her body stiffened under me, and all that pride and satisfaction fizzled out as I pulled back to find her anger loud on her face. I was glad it wasn’t pain.

I desperately wished we’d also bonded so I could feel how I affected her.

“You’ll need to redo your makeup,” I said bluntly. “We can’t have you arriving at the party looking like that.”

Shock snapped across Melanie’s face, exactly as if I had slapped her. My heart instantly clenched, filled with the same shame I experienced whenever Kai looked at me like I’d betrayed him.

I instinctively sniffed to see what emotion her scent was exuding, which was yet another error. Because I’d been so caught up in our kiss that I hadn’t stopped to think of how wet her pussy would be.

“I’ll wait downstairs,” I said. My jaw ticked as I forced myself backwards. “The car is parked at the entrance.”

Thecarridetothe hotel was awful. Sin refused to look at me, and I didn’t want to speak to him. I was tempted to refuse to go to the party, to throw the dress at him and force him and the stylists out of my nest and my life.

The driver opened the door on Sin’s side of the car. He briefly turned to me with no emotion in his eyes.

“Stay,” he said coldly, as if I was a dog waiting for his orders.

My eyebrows shot up and I took a deep breath, but I was covered in so much vanilla that I ended up slicking at his command.

I shifted my hips, trying to rearrange myself, as if fanning the long hem of my dress was going to stop my slick.

Thank God I still had a pair of period pants hanging around for when I used to take those pills that forced me to bleed. My legs, thighs and hips were shaped with black tights, though I doubted it would help if my horniness got out of control.

Because the dress would have been ruined the moment Sin arrived at my flat.

The door opened on my side, and Sin bowed, his purple irises even more imposing than before. He offered me a hand and I was tempted to ignore it after his attitude, but I was being paid to play a part. And I prided myself on being good at my job.

I rose from the car, taking his hand, enjoying the smooth brush of his silky white glove, and the bumps and grooves I could feel under the fabric. My other hand wrapped tight around the midnight blue clutch laced with gold that Kai had sent along with the dress.

I’d never worn anything like it. Even compared to the omegas standing in the hotel doorway, I still felt like a queen, and Kai was the one who’d crowned me.

There were too many pairs of eyes watching us. My heels were so tall that I almost stumbled. Sin’s knuckle cracked as he quickly pulled me to his side, and I was already flushing. I had no idea what the hell was going through his head as he looked down at me with a neutral expression, but I refused to cringe away from him.

As I straightened myself, I looked up at the huge building, glowing with bright lights, the sound of an orchestra floating towards us from inside. Laughter and chattering surrounded us as Sin guided me towards the stairs that led up to the entrance.

I could sense the alpha and omega auras from far away, and I was hoping they wouldn’t get any stronger. The few alphas and omegas I had been around since my heat ended had all been overwhelming as their auras made me feel sick and their scents were too strong. The only reason I’d kept calm around Sin was because he’d held his aura in.

My breath caught as I laid eyes on them, and I sighed with relief. The tension I’d been clutching to so desperately released.

Caspian and Kai stood at the top of the wide marble stairs, sending me matching sneers that spun right to my core.
