I look at the money on the table then back at Dax “What?”
“We started this when you got with the PA. You in or out?” Dax asks?
“How much did you have on me and Zeeta?” I dig into my pocket, pulling out my leather money clip.
“We placed the same five hundred.” Jasper replies and he takes a seat next to Cole.
I pull five hundred out and drop it on the table “Sorry Cole, I gotta agree with the guys.”
Cole shakes his head “Tarek is not a family man. I’m still shocked at Rhet.”
I frown looking across at Cole “I’m not a family man.”
Dax takes a seat and sips his drink “More like not as yet. We all gotta grow up sometime, right?”
Jaspers shakes his head “No” “I will be a fuck-boy for life.”
We all laugh because we know if it one person in the group who is longing for a family it’s Jasper.
I stand “Ok this has been great, but I have to leave.”
Cole gets a silly grin on his face “You’re going to see my future baby mama.”
“Continue walking down this road to death Cole,” I sneer. Picking up my glass I drink the last of the contents.
“Go see your woman now and set things, right.” Dax says
I nod, place the glass back on the table “I will see you guys later.”
I walk to door and open it only to hear Dax shot “Remember I’m your best man.”
I laugh and head to the elevator. I take out my phone and dial Zeeta’s number. It goes straight to voice mail. I wonder where she could be.
ZEETA
Every part of my body hurts. I press my palm against the cold ground trying to get up.
I can still see Carson’s black shoes and he is pacing back and forth.
“You had one job. Now I have lost everything because you,” Carson screams, the impact of his anger hits my left rib as he kicks me.
I collapse to the floor again. This has been going on for nearly an hour. All I can do now is groan. I tried to fight him earlier, but his men held me while he pulled back his fist and punched me in my face.
“Stay down,” he screams again “Now the Banners have more power than before and your brother. No new legs for him.”
I try to get up, only have my jaw punched again. The pain ricocheted behind my head and down my spine.
I taste iron in my mouth; it must be blood. I didn’t bother trying to get back up. I just laid on the floor. The cold ground gave a small relief to my face and my body.
“I will be back to deal with you later, let’s go” Carson says.
I see several pairs of shoes pass by me. I exhale thankful that he is taking a break.
I don’t how many minutes pass, but I finally push myself up to stand. Leaning on the wall for support I try to catch my breath.
“Ok Zee you have to move.” I mutter to myself. I press my palm against the wooden wall and I begin to shuffle closer to the door.
I feel like the door is moving away from me. The more I walk the further away the door seems.
