“More like your PA. Yes, Jasp she is really cool” Dax replies looking at Jasper.
Tarek shakes his head, gets up and walks around the island. He opens the fridge and begins to take out ingredients.
“I can’t deal with this all of this on an empty stomach,” he says as he proceeds to dig into Dax’s fridge.
Tarek passes by me, takes out a pot near the stove and begins to make breakfast.
“I normally warn women if they fall in love with me, it’ll end badly.” Cole groans out and pushes off the counter to sit back, “Everything is spinning.” Cole grunts as he places his head on the counter again.
I scratch to the sides of my five o’clock shadow.
“Wait the PA said I love you?” Tarek stops mid stir.
I nod yes.
“Did you say it back?” he asked.
I shake my head no.
He laughs and continues cooking, “Well, you, my friend are royally fucked.”
I take off my jacket and throw it onto his marble counter. “What the hell am I supposed to do now?”
“You love her?”
I frown. “I don’t know.”
“You don’t know. You almost exploded in my restaurant when she was on a date.” Tarek responds.
Jasper laughs out loud “He didn’t,” he holds his neck “Shit my head. Tarek start that coffee machine.”
Dax stirs his drink with his finger “You almost killed a man over her at the gala.”
My chest begins to feel tight like I couldn’t breathe.
“That doesn’t mean anything…right?” I inquire, I press down harder on the kitchen counter.
“Okay cool, we’re best friends. Send one of us to fuck her. She’s got a great ass.” Dax looks me in my face.
“What the hell did you just say?” I can feel myself becoming enraged.
Dax laughs into his cup. “Hold that feeling. That rage. That right there, my friend is your first sign of love. You’re so screwed.”
I throw all the alcohol in my glass down my throat and grimace when I feel the intense burn. I pass my hand through my hair and pull at the roots until it hurts. “When did that happen?” I drag my hand down my face.
“So, are you going to tell her or not?” Dax questions.
“Yes, but in my own time. My life can’t accommodate love,” I state.
Dax frowns. “Why not? She knows who you are and a part of what you do. I see no reason not to.”
“Shut up, Doctor Phil. Love comes with responsibilities. After Trent, I don’t know, man.”
Cole sighs and sits up “It’s more like after Charlotte.”
I clench my jaw wanting to tell Cole that he was wrong.
“I mean, I’m not the one who came to my friend’s house wrapped in my fucking feelings.” Dax shrugs and reaches for the cognac to pour himself another glass. “You’re being a coward if you ask me,” Dax states.
