“Yes, it is. It looks like you are getting serious with Tarek?”
I wait for her shock.
“No, we are just friends, its complicated. Who told you?”
“Hattie’s grandson is a waiter at Glass house, and he saw you and Tarek being a little too close. Hattie told Ms. Helen. Then Ms. Helen told me.”
“The church grapevine has never failed us.” Pen laughs over the phone.
“Zeeta, how did you win the prize?”
“I don’t know, apparently, I spent money online at RBJ music. I don’t care, I got a call from Jasper’s management and we’re going to see him perform tonight.”
Hours later, Dante, Penny, and I exit an elevator and walk into Lakeshore’s newest rooftop bar ICONIC.
“This place is absolutely breath taking.” Penny mutters as she pushes Dante through the door.
The words that come to mind describing ICONIC are chic, elegant. The floor to ceiling glass panes allow you to see the Lakeshore skyline and the southern Waterfront. The fluorescent blue that lights up the black marble bar creates a posh ambiance for guests.
“Are the chairs black velvet? Jasper is inside of here and he’s going to sing. Oh God.”
“You sound like you want to screw him,” my brother says.
“God, no. I love his voice and his music.” Penny says as she pushes Dante down the aisle.
I’m so excited, I feel like jumping up and down. A tall blonde man, with an unmistakable swagger comes to us. “Hi I’m Dimitri. Welcome to ICONIC. You must be Zeeta.”
I smile brightly at Dimitri. His accent is thick it could be Russian “Yes I am.”
“We have seats for the three of you up front.” He said as he pulls down his thick v neck beige sweater.
Penny’s jaw drops as she passes her hand over the back of one of the chairs, “It so soft Zee.”
“I feel like I’m living a dream. If anyone wakes me up they’re dead,” Penny threatens.
“Shhh, Penny. We are not dreaming”
As we settle into our seats, Jasper walks in slow, he stops to talk to Dimitri and taps him on the back. You can see hints of his tattoo peeking out from his white t-shirt.
“Where are the others?” Penny asks as she twist around to see more.
“I don’t know.”
Ash, Silas and Rowan of the GREY walk into the bar, and they begin to set up their instruments. They move the drums to the side and begin their sound checks
“Is this a dream, Zeeta?” Penny squeals and shakes in her seat.
“You’re right anyone wakes us they are dead.” I snicker.
Just then the mic makes a high pitched whining sound as Jasper pulls it toward him.
“Sorry about that.” Jasper smiles, his thick, dark hair is pulled low in a hair band.
“I love his piercings,” Penny says, as she stares up at him dreamily,
“Pen be quiet,” I murmur.
“I know, I know.” She closes her eyes and shakes her head.
