But it wasn’t Tarek, it was Penny. She’s talking so fast that all I got was Zeeta and hospital.
It felt like all the blood was draining from me “Talk slower Penny.”
I can hear Tarek near her saying “Give me the phone.”
“Rhet, Zeeta is in the Emergency room. We’re on the fifth floor. Get here now.” Penny’s voice travels through my phone.
Dante shifts to his open drawer pulls out a folded t-shirt. “I’m coming with you.”
“Which hospital? What’s wrong with her?” My heart was not beating anymore.
“Lakeshore and just get here.” The phone hangs up.
“You need help?” I ask Dante.
“I can make it down to your car. Pull the car to the side of the house. Zeeta built a ramp for me years ago.”
I sprint down the stairs and to my car“I’m coming baby hold on.”
ZEETA
My eyelids feel so heavy. I try to stretch but my body hurts. As I open my eye, I see sheer beige curtains. My right eye hurts and mouth feels dry.
“Where am I?” I ask as I try to sit up.
“Don’t do that. Let me help you. Lakeshore hospital.” I hear Rhet’s voice. His hand rests gently on my arms.
I try to pull away “Don’t touch me.”
He sighs and moves his hands away. Rhet stands next to my bed holding on to white side rails.
I lie back on my pillows and look to the side. My bed begins to raise giving me a small incline.
Rhet gently turns my face to him. He places two fingers under my chin “Who did this to you?”
I pull face away, “Why are you here?”
He doesn’t get chance to answer as the door to my room opens.
“Hi” a cute lady wearing green glasses walks in. She is holding a clip board close to her chest.
Rhet moves away from the bed and sits back on the chair.
“Well, you must be the fiancée. I’m doctor Rogers,” the lady says as she comes closer to my bed.
“I am,” he says.
Rhet’s eyes instantly lock with mine as if he was daring me to say something. I didn’t have the strength to deal with him right now.
“And how are you feeling?” Doctor Rogers places her hand softly on my shoulder.
“Sore,” I reply. The doctor opens the clip board and begins to read.
“You’re lucky, you have a bruised rib, no broken bones but baby is doing fine,” she smiles sweetly.
My head pops of the pillow “Excuse me?”
“The baby?” Rhet sounds as confused as I am.
