She moves and allows me to come in.
“Would you like some coffee?” she asks she walks into the living room and I follow her.
“No thank you. Where is Zeeta’s mom?” I look around seeing things that I didn’t take notice of before like Dante’s trophies.
“Oh she is down for bed. It’s almost nine o’clock.” Ms Helen says.
Where was Zeeta?
“Hey, can I go up to see Dante?”
Ms. Helen looks up the stairs.
“He doesn’t like visitors. But if Zee trusts you so do I. Go ahead it may do him some good.”
I leap up the stairs not knowing where I was going.
“It’s the first door on your right.”
Knocking the door, I hear “Yeah?”
I didn’t both to announce myself. I walk in and close the door behind me.
“Shit, did you come to finish the job?” Dante looks around my age. He is in bad need of a shave and a haircut.
“Your room is a mess,” I look around his room wondering if Zeeta would clean this for her brother. Thinking about her responsibilities and dealing with her mom and brother. That would be a lot.
“What do you want?” Dante asks as he shifts his wheel chair to face me.
I dig my hand in my pocket “I want answers”
Dante nods, “You almost killed me.”
“You killed my brother,” I can feel the first spark of my rage.
Dante exhales “Man I didn’t. I wouldn’t have done that. I even have proof.”
“Proof?” I ask.
He turns around and digs in his drawer only to pull an old Lg touch screen. “I have to charge it. I’ve always kept it just in case.”
“To cover your ass?” I ask
“No and yes” he digs some more and plugs the phone in.
“What’s on it?” I ask.
“Text message between the guys before and after your brothers passing, a video with them bragging,” Dante states.
The great debate in my mind was do I want to know.
“Tell me about the night my brother died,” I sit at the edge of Dante’s bed. Nothing was bothering me, not the smell of his room or the dishes near my feet. I just need to know.
“Marcus introduced Adrian, Jamie and I to Carson,” Dante says. Carson has been the constant in all my problems.
“The man said he belongs to an important group called Quarter Masters. Even showed us the ring.”
Placing my elbows on my knees I look across at Dante and he was staring at the wall. It’s like he is seeing a movie play out in front of him.
