When I finally reach the door, I press against it and slide it open. I’m surprised that it’s open. I guess Carson must have thought I was too weak to get up.

The door opens and a cool burst of air greets me. I step on gravel, looking back I see an old empty barn.

Acres of land stretch out in front of me. How am I getting out of here? The only light out was from the bright full moon. I can see the lights from a large house far away. I make two steps forward then I hear it an angry growl.

Turning my head to the side I see a full dog the size of a Ford 1-50. His growl sounds like thunder. I move back slowly as he moves forward. As he is about to lunge, I hear someone say “Bruno where are you boy?”

The dog doesn’t move but he is posed to attack.

“Help,” I scream, as I move back slowly.

I hear footsteps,

“Bruno stand down,” a woman with a soft voice says. The dog sits but he is still growling

My knees give out.

“Oh my god, you’re Rhet’s new girl,” the woman screams as she rushes toward me.

“Help me please,” I recognize her. I can’t recall her name but she places my arm around her shoulder.

“Let me call my dad,” She says.

Instantly I freeze, “Your dad is who put me here.”

Her eyes widen and she shakes her head. “My truck is to the side if you can walk?”

I stayed still my muscles burn “Where are we going?”

I didn’t have the energy to run away, my strength was slipping from my body.

She holds me tighter “We are getting you to the hospital and then we will call Rhet,”

I shake my head “No don’t call Rhet.”

We begin to move toward her car. The dog is still at her side but he has stop growling.

As she opens the truck door I groan as I move into the truck.

“You gotta move quickly before my dad comes back,” she says.

She picks up my leg and closes the door. I close my eyes and lean my head back.

“Don’t worry you’re safe. I’m Charlotte by the way.” She starts the truck.

“Thanks Charlotte” that was the last thing I remember saying before everything around me went dark.

I called her six times, instead of going home, I drive to her house. We need to talk.

As I walk up the stairs I knock and the door swings open “Hi.”

It was the family friend, Ms. Helen “Oh Hi, I thought you were Zeeta.”

I frown “She is not home?”

She shakes her head and folds her arms “No and I swore I heard her voice earlier today. Well come in.”
