RHET
Nighttime approaches and I’m still coming down from the fact that I won the Waterfront bid. My brother’s dream is about to become a reality. Yet I still don’t feel as happy as I should. Now I’m here at Dax’s apartment playing poker trying to get my mind right.
We all sit around Dax’s table with our cards and chips in front of us.
“Fold,” Jasper says as he drops his card down.
“Fold,” I wasn’t in the mood to play. I’m still trying to figure out Zeeta’s motive, I should have gone to her house.
The guys continue to move around me while I’m lost in thought.
“Rhet, what the hell. Snap out of it?” Cole shoves my shoulder and takes a huge puff of his cigar.
Dax places a beer and glass in front of me “What did the PA do now?”
Tarek laughs, “Maybe she realized that his money doesn’t make up for this dick size.”
When I stay silent, they realize something is up.
“Ok Rhet what the fuck? You’re scaring me with that look,” Jasper states as he sits slowly in his chair.
“What look?” I open my beer, pour it in the glass and chug it.
“Yeah something is definitely wrong,” Cole says as he rest his cigar in the ashtray.
“She betrayed me,” I whisper. Even saying it out loud makes me even more angry.
“You sure?” Dax asks his eyebrow up as if he was surprised.
I sigh and give them the whole story.
“Fuck me,” Cole mutters as he pulls on his red beard.
“So, what’s your next move?” Tarek as he shuffles the cards over and over again.
“I don’t know I am so angry, right now,” I answer.
Dax walks over to his bar, gets his crystal decanter and brings five glasses to the table, “Game over.”
He begins to pour whiskey into the glasses.
“How about you talk to her about it?” Dax states.
Jasper comes around the table and places his hand on my shoulder the other raises a beer.
“Can we just take a minute to congratulate Rhet on winning the Waterfront bid” Jasper says. They all raise their drinks in the air sending out congratulations.
“I want a prime A spot for one of my restaurants,” Tarek smirks as he drums his fingers on the felt table.
“Here is the hard truth. You would have lost the bid if Zeeta didn’t change it. She helped you win.” Cole states.
I’m irritated but Cole is right. If I had placed my original bid, I would have lost.
“I mean, if you don’t want her,” Cole shrugs
“Are you in a fuck around and find out kind of a mood Cole?” I ask.
Cole snickers “She fucked up, but she fixed it. Zeeta is not Charlotte.”
