The cold steel presses against my cheek. His forehead touches mine. “Did you or did you not send in the bid?”
I nod, I have no voice left to talk. His eyes looks like he’s fighting with the demon dwelling inside of him.
“Are you working for Carson?” His breath puffs against my lips.
I nod, losing it as I realize he can end me right here. All he has to do is pull the trigger and I’m gone.
“I should fucking kill you.” He growls
I swallow sending a silent prayer to anyone who is listening.
“I run this fucking city. And you, a fucking nobody, you tried to fuck me over?”
He clenches his jaw, beads of sweat appear on his face. He rubs his forehead as if he were in pain
“I’m sorry.” That’s all I can say.
“Sorry? You emotionally fucked me and all you can say is fucking sorry,” he whispers.
“Rhet, please.”
“I started to trust in you, Zee. In us. Was this revenge?”
“No.”
“No? You’re a fucking liar.” The gun clicks beside my face.
“Rhet, please.”
“You sabotaged the bid. I’m not going to kill you. That sour cunt Carson isn’t going to be this lucky.”
I should explain, get everything out, but I can’t move.
“I’m trying to figure out Carson’s connection to your brother. I know there is more than what you told me, I don’t want to hear it from you.”
My knees tremble as he speaks. God help me.
RHET
This fucking hurts, its tearing me apart. I press my body into hers my gun against her cheek, I can feel my heart beating through my shirt.
“I’m going to kill Carson.”
She widens her eyes. “Please no.”
Her mini plea for Carson aggravates me. “I’m going to fucking kill him,” I shout right in her ear.
She cowers, pulling into herself as if trying to look smaller. “You’re better than that.”
Her hands trembles as she touches my face. I close my eyes, savoring the last touch I will get from her.
“Stop begging for him Zeeta!” I scream.
I pull back and aim the gun at her head. She slides down the wall shaking her head. “No please, I love you so much, please. I had to do it for my family.”
“Fuck your family.”
I didn’t blink, I pull the trigger and the sound of the bullets echoes through the office. Everything was quiet. I shake my head and look away. Walking back to my desk.
