“Rhet, it’s been years” Gio’s voice blasts over my speakers.
My heart beats as I think about what I was to do.
“I will be at your store in ten minutes. Get a couple of engagements rings ready for me,”
The phone goes quiet “Rhet this is for you, yes?”
I snicker tighten my hand on the steering wheel, “Yes, it is.”
“No need to come to the store. I can have them sent to your house.” Gio states.
I sigh “I will appreciate that.”
“You don’t need all those rings. I have just the one for you. Sending you a video now” Gio says.
I click on my phone and the video of a rotating ring appears.
“I design this. It’s a platinum diamond ring. It has a twenty-eight carat octagon cut diamond set on a platinum band. Simple and elegant,” Gio says.
Pulling my car to the side of the road to look at the ring closer “She’s a special lady Gio.”
“Then this ring it perfect for her, also its one of a kind.”
I imagine Zeeta seeing this ring. She will fuss about the size but still love it.
“What’s the cost?” I ask as I pull back into the streets to drive home.
“Ten million it’s really twelve but for you ten million,” Gio laughs over the phone.
“I will take it. Have it sent over to my house within the hour. I will send the money now,” I reply and I take a couple of short cuts to get to my home.
“It’s being wrapped as we speak. It’s a pleasure doing business with you Banner,” Gio states.
“Thanks Gio.” I end the call. I should call Julian and have him arrange a dinner for me. Maybe I can fly us to New York and propose to her on the Empire State building.
As I pull up to my gate my guard motions for me to stop.
Rolling down my car window, I ask, “What’s the problem?”
“Your father is here sir,” my guard says and he places his hands behind his back.
I nod as I drive to my front door.
Why is my father at my home?
I dial Julian’s number. He answers on the first ring “Julian why is my father at my home?
“Does Zeeta have the account information for the bids?” Julian asks he sounds exasperated. My mind drifts back to her asking me about the folder on my desk.
Like a bad omen, a breeze kicks around my car. I look up into my rearview mirror only to see the trees swaying side to side.
“Yes, she did. What the fuck is it Julian?” I seethe through my teeth.
“I was about to set everything up for you to make the bid in the morning. But it was already made,” Julian retorts.
My throat begins to squeeze “Are you sure?”
“Yes, I have the confirmation email sitting right in front of me,” Julian states.
