He screamed and squirmed in the chair. Three shots ring out as they hit him in his chest, head and stomach.

I sigh place the gun back in my waist and straighten my jacket. God I’m tired.

Dimitri chuckles “All this for a PA. I must meet this magical woman.”

I ignore him taking one last look at Joe.

“Have at it your cleanup crew is going to have a hell of a job” I tap his shoulder twice more and turn to leave.

“You will rot in hell, Rhet Banner. Karma is going to come for you,” Joey screams, “Your time is coming, she’s going to make you feel pain. Karma is coming.”

Who the hell is theshehe is talking about, Karma? I look over my shoulder, then turn fully, knowing this is the last time I will see him.

“News flash I have fucked karma, and she came over and over and over again. Die well, buddy.”

I give him the thumbs up, turn and leave. Not looking back, I only hear his scream of pain echo through the sky above me.

As I sit in my car, welcoming the silence. The phone rings, I press the answer button. “Julian.”

“You have to come back to the club ASAP.”

“Is the Senator sleeping?” I stub my cigar out in the car astray.

“No, he’s up, but that’s the problem. I can’t tell you over the phone.”

“Okay, see you in a bit.”

My mind drifts to the time. It’s nearly 2:00 a.m. I wonder if Zeeta is home yet. The guards didn’t send me a message. I guess she stayed the night with her mother.

I dial the number to her phone. As the ring echoes in my car, I wonder what mess happened at the club. I hope everything goes according to my plans.

After the fourth ring, I’m about to hang up the call. It’s ridiculous I’m calling this late.

“Hello?” her voice comes over the speaker, making me feel warm inside.

“Where are you?” I ask, while I run the traffic light to get back to my club.

“Walking through my door.”

“You didn’t call the guards.”

Why the hell did she not call the guards. Zeeta is gifted in making me crazy. She never listens.

“I called an Uber.”

“You’re shitting me, right?” An Uber? In front of my house.

“I needed to think for a bit, Rhet.”

“Do you think clearer in the backseat of a fart covered Uber? You gotta be kidding me.”

I shout, she is not even thinking about her safety.

She sighs. “I’m home safe and that’s what’s important.”

She’s right. “Lock up and rest. I should be home soon,” I reply.

She doesn’t say goodbye, she just hangs up.
