“I’m good. Got a woman. Hailey.”
I’d told Davis and Cole to keep their mouths shut about what Rick was forcing me to do, but assumed they told their women.
“But any suggestions on where to get her a dress for it would be appreciated.”
I knew where Crystal would have gone, but Hailey didn’t strike me as the same kind of girl as my sister. So far, I’d seen Hailey dressed nice. But casual. She had a comfortable feel to her. Didn’t mean she didn’t like to get dressed up, but I saw her in something sleek and classy more than shiny and showing all the skin, trying to do anything to get the attention on her in any way she could.
“I’ve got someone you can call,” Maggie said. “Belle has a personal shopper she adores.”
Annabelle Connolly wasn’t only Maggie’s best friend, but she was heir to a massive recording studio and music agency. Belle’s father was the guy who insisted Maggie take the stage last winter. She was loaded and classy. And I had no doubt Maggie wouldn’t steer me in the wrong direction.
“I’d like that.”
As she spoke, she pulled out her phone. “Gimme your number and I’ll text it as soon as I get it from Belle. She uses a woman named Josephine to dress her every time she has some fancy shindig she has to go to.”
“Thanks, Maggie.”
She grinned at me. “No problem. You bringing her to the wedding?”
They were getting married next month. Definitely something I’d need a date for. “Probably, if that’s all right. I know you’re keeping it small.”
“Of course it’s okay with me.” She grinned. “You guys are okay, though, I mean, with everything? Davis told me…”
“Told you what?” Cassy asked.
“Nothing. It’s new is all.”
Next to Cassy, Maggie flinched and mouthedsorry. So she knew.
Which was fine.
Didn’t stop the uncomfortable itch beneath my skin when I thought about what I was doing with Hailey, what she wanted from me, and how fucking good she’d tasted and felt the other night.
Hadn’t stopped thinking about it. Thought about her that night when I got home, when I woke up. Thought about her in the shower after I worked out and again, later, when I was trying to do some cooling laps in my backyard pool.
She was everywhere, jumping into my thoughts at every inconvenient moment, and I was pretty damn certain it was only going to get worse the more I was around her.
This is what we signed up for, but now I had to focus on us both getting what we wanted, without getting tangled up and complicating things further.
CHAPTER12
HAILEY
“Inever knew you could get more beautiful than you already are.”
I blushed at Meredith’s compliment from the reflection in my full-length mirror. She was tanned and happy and had come over to help me get ready.
“Don’t be nice. It’ll make me cry.”
“Fine, then bitch, you look a lot less skinny than you normally do.”
I grabbed my eyeliner pencil off the table next to me and flung it at her. “Thank you.”
She laughed, and I joined her before brushing my hands down the most gorgeous dress I’d ever worn, outside my wedding dress, but that wasn’t going to be thought about tonight.
Not when I was preparing to head to Dawson’s house.
Two days ago, in a complete surprise to me, a woman showed up at my door at eight o’clock in the morning. I’d just gotten out of the shower, wore nothing but a robe and a towel wrapped around my hair when I saw her through the glass, holding on to a small garment rack full of dresses.
