“Well tell me what I’ve done so I can fix it.” He all but shouted the words back at me as he slammed his hands through his hair, tugging them back like he wanted to scream at the sky.
God…were we seriously shouting at each other? About this!
If he wanted to know, he’d know. If he still wanted to leave after, then good riddance.
I stomped my foot on the wood floor. Vaguely, it occurred to me that I was throwing a tantrum, but I was too worked up to care.
“Because Iwantyou and you’ve been acting like I’m just a job and it’s pissing me off!”
His entire upper half waved back like I’d shoved him. The tension in the room mounted to volcanic levels. His jaw dropped to the floor right as all the color drained from his face. “What?”
“Forget it!” I spun on my heels. God, how mortifying. If I’d physically thrown myself at him, it couldn’t have been more humiliating.
I got two steps away before a strong, warm hand grabbed my wrist and spun me back around. I nearly collided with him. “What?” I gasped, staring up into a face carved like stone, those oceanic eyes the stormiest I’d ever seen them.
“You want me?”
“Yes! I mean, hell, what’s a girl gotta do to get laid around here?!”
He threw his head back and laughed. What was wrong with this man? I lifted my hand, to caress him or slap him I didn’t know, but my palm burned.
How dare he laugh at me about this.
Shawn gave my arm a gentle shake, and when he looked down at me, he stole my breath. His eyes were lit with a wicked gleam, and his beautiful, full lips were still curled at the corners.
“Addi…I’ve been waiting for that sign from you. You’re the one going through shit, and after everything you said about Daniel and how I practically mauled you last weekend…I didn’t…fuck…” He dropped his head and rubbed a hand over his face, shoulders shaking with laughter. “I needed a sign from you that you were ready for something like that.”
“Well what’d I have to do? Prance around here butt-ass naked?”
His eyes flashed and he took a step toward me. “Are we standing here fighting about how much we both want each other?”
When he put it that way, it sounded ridiculous. I shrugged. “Maybe. But in actuality, you didn’t say you wanted me—you said you were going to leave.”
“Oh.” His head shook. He was still holding me. His hands on me wereburningmy flesh through my clothing. “I’m not leaving. Not now.”
The gleam in his eyes darkened, and he pulled me closer against him, sliding that hand to the curve of my backside.
My breath faltered. “Shawn—”
“Oh, no. You don’t get to take those words back now.”
No way in hell was I going to, but this was suddenly movingwayfaster than I’d anticipated. “But—”
He shook his head, the edges of his lips quirked up into the widest smirk I could have ever imagined right before my back hit the wall.
“Oof.”
Shawn kept moving forward, caging me in as he lifted the arm he still held above my head and plastered me to the wall.
“You want this?” he asked. His voice turned guttural as his head dipped down. I wasn’t given time to answer. He stole theyesI would have said with a brush of his lips over mine, sealing our mouths together.
Andoh sweet heavenly Jesus. This was insane. My core was a needy, pulsing heat, and all my nerve endings misfired, making me feel more alive than I’d ever felt and more out of control than I’d ever known possible.
He didn’t tease me with his kisses; he kissed me like he needed me to survive. His hand at my arm gripped tighter, and his other settled on my hip, quickly tugging my shirt from my jeans until his palm was on my flesh, the soft skin above my hips.
I shivered at the contact.Oh God.This was incredible.
“This is what I wanted…your mouth, your body pressed against mine. I go to sleep on your couch at night, breathing in your coconut scent, hard, thinking of you in your bed. And then I wake up hard remembering how good you felt last week.”
