“Yes, that would help my research,” Wayden said.
“Okay,” Blaine said, walking away.
“Blaine!” Wayden called. Blaine turned and looked at him. “Thank you.”
Blaine’s cheeks reddened, but he looked away too fast for Wayden to enjoy the moment. “I’m only doing my job.”
“I know,” Wayden said, a smile spreading his lips.
“Is there anything else?” Blaine asked, turning to look at Wayden again. Wayden shook his head as he stared at him. A sensual tension swirled around them as they continued to stare at each other. And for a second Wayden felt like they were the only two people there. “I’m going to… uhh…” Blaine said awkwardly pointing at the main hut.
“Of course,” Wayden said. He watched Blaine leave, his heart beating a thousand times a minute.
Chapter 17
Blaine
To drink or not to drink? That was the question.
Blaine stared at the pouch of herbs, contemplating his life decisions. For the first time in his life, he was going to think about something deeply and not make a decision on a whim. The last time he’d done that, he’d gotten himself on a damn shuttle with a strange alpha and travelled half across the planet to live in – Blaine looked around at his beautiful surroundings – no. He couldn’t bring himself to say something bad about the pack lands. They were gorgeous and he knew that if he hadn’t taken a chance, he would have never seen something so beautiful. He wouldn’t have ventured out of the capital. He wouldn’t have learned that there was another way of living out there. He wouldn’t have made another friend.
Okay, maybe he wasn’t regretting his decision to follow Professor Douche. And maybe Professor Douche wasn’t as douchy as Blaine had thought. And maybe he kind of liked him, even though they didn’t get along half the time.
Fuck. Okay… okay… was he drinking the damn herb or not? Blaine silently groaned because he already knew the answer. He wanted to be with Wayden again. He wanted to feel the alpha’s heat envelope him again. And he wanted his knot. Blaine grew wet just thinking about it.
So, what was the problem? Why was he hesitating? He’d never hesitated before. Never. If he wanted something he went for it. But with Wayden it wasn’t that simple. There was so much at risk. Blaine touched is chest. His heart was even racing.
Fuck. It’s just sex. What was the worst thing that could happen? They’ve already done it before. There was no turning back. Why was he hesitating?
“Blaine, what are you doing? We need to go.” Owen came to stand with him.
“Is everyone ready?” Blaine asked, looking at the main hut. The omegas were inside getting food, warm water, cleaning supplies and everything else they thought Green might need.
“Yeah,” Owen said, reaching for the pouch. “What’s this?” He brought it to his nose and sniffed. “Oh…” he said, before returning it to Blaine. “He’s really not your alpha. Wow. I thought you were lying. The way you two look at each other, I could have sworn you were together. But omegas only use that herb when they’re sleeping with alphas who don’t have any intention of claiming them.”
Blaine stared at Owen, a weird feeling settling in his stomach. He’d said Wayden wasn’t his alpha a million times, but hearing someone else say it…
“What’s wrong?” Owen asked.
“Nothing,” Blaine said, forcing a smile. He shoved the pouch into his pocket and took Owen’s hand. “We should go.”
“Yes, the others are already there,” he said excitedly. “I can’t wait to see the cub. Oh, I can’t wait…”
“I know, I know.” Blaine laughed. “You’ve been saying that ever since he was born.”
Owen laughed right along with him. Hand in hand they made their way to Green’s hut. A wailing cub greeted them as they entered.
“Close the door quickly. We’re giving him a bath,” someone shouted from within.
“Sorry… sorry…” Owen said, closing the door quickly. He dragged Blaine to where the other omegas were swooning over the crying cub.
Blaine cringed.
How could anyone like this? He shook his head and found somewhere to sit. He was there to observe and not judge. He might not like the idea of having a cub of his own, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t a beautiful thing. And watching the omegas gathered there, his omega instincts tingled. Blaine ignored them. That’s why he hated living in the commune houses. Being surrounded by all that sweetness made his teeth ache.
“Blaine?” Owen called him closer.
“I can see from where I am,” Blaine said.
